Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
10 Years of Service
General Manager, Marie-Therese Tiernan, was delighted to present Carer, Herma, with her ten year Long Service Award. Herma is a valued member of the care team and we look forward to working with her for another ten years.
Volunteer Workshop
Milford House, in conjunction with Kate Brooks of Care Home Volunteers, held a workshop for anyone who wanted to find out more about being a volunteer at a care home and what it might entail. Milford House has a wonderful band of volunteers and we wanted to help Kate spread the word about the opportunities available in care homes in general and how valuable volunteers are to a care home. Pictured with Kate are two of the attendees.
Tea & Laughter
Residents at Milford House have a new favourite place to visit for a drop of tea and a wander: Riverbourne Community Farm, which is just a stone's throw from Milford House. Their recently opened café is a great place to have a cup of tea. Before or after tea there is the opportunity to have a wander around the farm and see all the latest additions, which turned out to be piglets in our most recent visit – quite adorable!
Alpaca Adventures
A gorgeous, sunny bank holiday Monday saw the arrival of alpacas, Oliver and Jimmy, together with their handler, Wendy. The alpacas toured the garden, making friends with everyone who gathered there, and then, for good measure, went through the home, both upstairs and down, visiting the less mobile residents.
It was a lovely afternoon and to say that we were all charmed by Oliver and Jimmy is an understatement, and we look forward to seeing then again before long.
Celebrating Our Volunteers
We have a team of around 20 volunteers who help to support the residents here at Milford House, and we wanted to make them feel special on Volunteer Recognition Day. That's Salisbury stopped by to film us make a fuss of the volunteers, and the footage can be viewed here.
Sharing Moments: On TV
We have been welcoming pre-school children into the home to mix with the older residents. These 'Sharing Moments' sessions have been taking the residents back to their childhood, as well as improving the children’s interaction and social skills.
The sessions have also been featured on That's Salisbury. You can view the video here.
