Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Employee of the Month - April
General Manager, Marie-Therese Tiernan, was delighted to named Senior Sister, Wendy Curtis, as the Employee of the Month for April. Pictured here receiving her award from Marie-Therese, Wendy was nominated by a number of her colleagues for her dedication and thoroughness in looking after residents. In addition, Wendy received a voucher to spend – something she is looking forward to!
Sharing Moments: In the Woods
Residents enjoyed another wonderful morning attending the Sharing Moments workshop, which was themed around ‘If you go down to the woods today’. The children got creative with games, books, and bread, and made some wonderful looking sandwiches and other edibles. Residents joined in or watched and everyone had a thoroughly good time – we can’t wait to see what next week’s theme is.
Sharing Moments
Milford House is delighted to be working with Kirsty and Rebecca of Imagine This. Together, we are running a series of workshops in the home for children aged 18 months and over and their parents.
Each workshop has a theme linked to the curriculum and residents are welcome to come along and watch or join in. The first event was a huge success. with enthusiastic children enjoying themed activities that reflected ‘a walk on the wild side’, with equally enthusiastic residents joining in to make things, including iced biscuits, alongside the children.
We are all looking forward to the next workshop.
Remembering Mary
In August 2017, everyone at Milford House was shocked when our friend and colleague, Mary Adlam, passed away suddenly. Everyone wanted to remember Mary in a concrete way, as she had worked at Milford for over 26 years in the kitchen and domestic departments, and had contributed much to the home.
It was decided that a bench dedicated to Mary’s memory would be appropriate, as it could be placed in our lovely gardens, where everyone could both see and enjoy it. We dedicated the bench on 30th April, which would have been Mary’s birthday, and which we had hoped would be a lovely warm spring day – but the weather had other ideas! However, Mary’s family, friends and colleagues were warmed by their memories of a very special lady who was definitely one of the Milford team.
Chico Delights
It is always a happy afternoon when Chico visits Milford, with a packed dining room full of residents enjoying a great afternoon of song in Chico’s company. Chico has now been coming to Milford for over three years and we love seeing him!
Thinking of You
Not all residents of Milford are able to leave their rooms and, although they receive visitors from loved ones, staff and volunteers, other residents thought it would be nice to regularly make cards for them to let them know that everyone is thinking of them.
