Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
A Hearty Valentine's Day
Residents at Milford enjoyed a variety of Valentine's-themed activities to celebrate the day. These gorgeous cards were just some of the creations made to recognise the day. We also hosted a healthy and happy heart exercise session to help keep our hearts fit and in fine fettle. Tea obviously featured prominently as well!
Mike & Muriel Return
A great afternoon was had by all, as Mike & Muriel had everyone laughing, singing, clapping and generally joining in as they put together an hour of varied entertainment. The favourite part had to be the dancing and movement, but everyone agreed that it was a great afternoon, which ended all too soon. But all is not lost, as Mike & Muriel will be back regularly during 2018 and we can’t wait!
Musical Afternoon
Residents were delighted to welcome back Amanda for the first time in 2018 for an afternoon of songs. Amanda always wears the most gorgeous dresses and we are always agog to see which creation she will appear in.
Dave Has Help Entertaining
Dave Dawson is a regular Milford favourite, with his afternoons of songs and banter, but he can’t always do it alone; he recently had help from residents and staff over the course of an afternoon. Dave is pictured here with Deputy Manager, Marie-Therese Tiernan, who was captured, as she was foolhardy enough to walk through the entertainment area, so a duet was therefore obligatory!
Celebrating Milford Decades
Deputy Manager, Marie-Therese Tiernan – pictured centre – was delighted to give 10 year Long Service Awards to Milford House’s Administrator, Michelle Lovett – pictured on the right – and Senior Sister, Louise Butler. Both are valued members of the ‘Milford Family’ and we would all like to congratulate them on their awards.
Happy New Year
Here at Milford, we wished everyone a very happy new year! Residents were delighted to see their planting efforts back in November rewarded with some gorgeous pots of Amaryllis, which bloomed just in time for Christmas, and are now carrying on well into the new year. We hope to have them for months to come, as we planted the bulbs at intervals, so as to ensure that we had something lovely to look at in the dark days of winter – and so far it's working a treat!
