Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Hello.  I am Jackie, the Lead Activity Co-Ordinator at Moreton Hill. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years. Now, together with my team and  the staff at our beautiful home, our aim is to help all residents live life to the best they can by bringing meaningful and enriching activities into their lives.

Getting Crafty

Lucy our Activity Assistant has loads of great ideas and projects for our residents to get stuck into.

With evenings drawing in and autumn well underway we made some beautiful lanterns with papier-mache tissue paper and decorated with silver stars and glitter.  Battery operated tea lights were placed in the centre of the jars and the lanterns were put on display in our Reception area and given to residents to enjoy in their rooms.

We have a whole list of arts and crafts projects lined up for the coming months and have already started on our poppy display for Remembrance Sunday working with our volunteer artist, Mel to paint poppies on stones that will go on display outside our main entrance.

Residents are Tickled Pink

The Jersey Pack was the sensational new show recently presented to the residents of Moreton Hill by the Tickled Pink Production Company.  Packed with a load of favourite songs from The Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli  and the Four Seasons as well as many other classics, this was all tied together with beautiful costumes, wonderful dance routines and a light hearted romantic comedy story. Everyone watching had a fabulous time and joined in with the singing and dancing.  We can’t wait to welcome Tickled Pink back for its Christmas panto and Winter Wonderland concert.

Winstones Ice Cream

Anyone in the Stroud area knows about the delicious ice creams produced by local company Winstones.  We often take a trip to their shop on Minchinhampton Common but to end summer on a high we decided to invite Lee and his van to come to Moreton Hill so that every resident could have an ice cream.  What a popular and well anticipated occasion! Lee stayed with us for an hour and made sure everyone had an ice cream cone or tub.  With a wide variety of flavours to choose from the salted caramel and mint choc chip proved especially popular.

Nature in Art

Every week we have a weekly art class run by volunteer Mel.   Mel and a group of fellow artists are currently  exhibiting at Nature in Art near Gloucester so we took a few of Mel’s students along to see Mel’s work in situ.  The sculptures and paintings were set in beautiful gardens which our residents enjoyed looking around.  The setting was so tranquil we could have stayed all day.

Team Fun

As well as being awarded Barchester Team of the Year for Central Division for all their hard work,  the staff at Moreton Hill still find time to have some fun and do a bit of team building. This summer many of our staff have taken part in activities including kayaking on the local canal and a sound bath in the garden of the home. .  The sound bath was totally relaxing and the kayaking exhilarating.  It was a wonderful way to spend time together and for many try something new.  We are all waiting to see what on the agenda next.  There are plenty of ideas in the pipeline.

Ruby our therapy dog

We are so lucky to have regular visits from the wonderful Ruby and her owner Gaby.  Together they bring huge amounts of joy to our residents, especially to those who are in bedrooms and unable to join in with group activities.  Many residents have a close connection to animals and stroking little Ruby can bring back wonderful memories of pets that have played such an important part of a person’s life.  We love hearing the stories that people tell us about their animals, not just dogs but horses, cats and from our farmers stories about their cattle and their farming lives.
