Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Hello. I am Jackie, the Lead Activity Co-Ordinator at Moreton Hill. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years. Now, together with my team and the staff at our beautiful home, our aim is to help all residents live life to the best they can by bringing meaningful and enriching activities into their lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Making Christmas Cakes
We love making our Christmas cakes and this year was no exception. The residents, many of whom are excellent cooks, made the cakes back in early October and have been feeding them with copious amounts of brandy ever since. The designs for decorating the cakes were chosen at our monthly Resident’s Meeting and as you can see from the photos there was some intricate work involved. Now we can’t wait for Christmas Day to actually do some tasting!

A Visit from Zoolab!
Our residents loved the visit from Zoolab and the interesting talk given by Emily. Everyone was very brave in handling the creatures and there was lots to learn about them – where they live, how long they live, what they eat and not to mention their quirky habits!

Wild Hogs
Wild Hogs is a local charity that looks after hedgehogs that have been injured. Autumn is a particularly busy time of year for the charity as the weather is changing and the hogs are starting to hibernate. Bonfires and strimmers are a danger and what a lot of people don’t realise is that dogs are a really big threat too. Our residents were fascinated to learn all about the life of a hedgehog and learn what they could do to help them.

Oomph Exercise Class
Every Friday before our sherry social and fish and chips lunch we make sure we have a work out with an Oomph Exercise Class. Anyone can attend the class which is seated and is a combination of gentle stretch and tone exercises plus a little bit of yoga and pilates thrown into the mix. We always end the class with music and a good shake of the pom poms to get everyone in the mood for the weekend!

Moira’s Walk
Moira has been at Moreton Hill for 13 years. She is a wonderful Resident Ambassador and a is such an important part of our life here at Moreton that we decided to set up a sensory walkway in her honour. Manager Roxana asked all the staff to bring in a plant to line the windows for everyone to enjoy different scents, textures and colours. Moira’s Walk runs alongside our beautiful courtyard and is a place where residents, families and friends can sit and relax. It really is a special spot for us all to enjoy.

Harvest Festival
We always celebrate Harvest Festival at Moreton Hill. Lyn from Standish Church who gives our monthly Communion Service read poems and prayers to make this a special harvest service. We ended with everyone singing ‘ We plough the fields and scatter.’ The Service was followed by a delicious lunch prepared by our talented Chef and his team.
