Activities at Newlands Care Home

Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.

We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

Jackie’s Celebration Concert

When the children  heard that Jacque was ill they organised a concert to celebrate the role she has played in their lives. Jacque has been part of the musical festival for 29yrs and has been part of the Workington and District Amateur Musical Society  (Adams) as the business manager and Jacque has watched some of the parents of the children grow. You could feel the love in the room. It was heart melting to see so many people coming to support.

60th Wedding anniversary

Our resident Patrick  ‘Terry’ Cunningham and his wife Mary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at our home. It was a very beautiful moment.

Bill goes garden shopping

William "Bill" loves gardening  and this was a great opportunity for our maintenance team to take him out for gardening materials. They took him out shopping and then later worked on the unit's garden with the help of other residents. This is something his family says he loves doing and we could all see from the look on his face how much that meant for him.

Flowers Arrangement

For our International flower day our residents showed their competitive nature. Everyone had a point to prove. The flower arrangement session was so much fun and the residents were thrilled with the end results. Their lovely flowers were displayed throughout the home for everyone to see.

Animal therapy

Residents and staff  had a lot of fun for their animal therapy session. It was amazing to see the residents interact with the beautiful animals. The cute cuddles and smiles on our residents faces was priceless. No one can resist a fluffy, cuddle and cute bunny. We understand why some residents where asking if they could keep the bunny.

Bird feeding

It was definitely worth the mess. The residents put on their gloves to make some bird feed. It was lovely to see the residents get their hands dirty and create food for our two legged friends. When all was said and done they couldn't wait to see the birds start eating. They were questions like "when are the birds coming"?. We are pretty sure some didn't  leave their seats by their window for a while (waiting for the birds).
