Activities at Newlands Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.
We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

Life at Newlands Care Home

Chinese language day
For our Chinese language day, we got a chance to learn a bit of Chinese from our lovely carer, Lili who can speak Mandarin. Our Residents got spoilt with some lovely Chinese snacks and furthermore got to learn their names in Chinese. It was a great atmosphere as we got to learn the Chinese culture and its diversity.

Jeff Summiting the Hills
What a wonderful moment it was to have Jeff hike up the hill to lock in his wishes. Jeff is an outdoor person and it has always been Jeff's dream to conquer the hills and with all the excitement he braised up the weather and made the trip up the hill. It was a delight to capture this moment and we think the smiles say it all. His wishes are fulfilled he says.

A very special concert
Residents held a special concert for Resident, Jackie Eve, realising a dream for her and the home buzzed with excited as they heard about the children coming to sing.
Newlands welcomed CH Music Workington led by Claire Humes for the special concert to celebrate, Resident, Jackie Eve who is the Vice Chairman of Workington Musical Festivals and has worked with the group of children for a very long-time when they competed for musical festivals under her watch.

Jackie’s Celebration Concert
When the children heard that Jacque was ill they organised a concert to celebrate the role she has played in their lives. Jacque has been part of the musical festival for 29yrs and has been part of the Workington and District Amateur Musical Society (Adams) as the business manager and Jacque has watched some of the parents of the children grow. You could feel the love in the room. It was heart melting to see so many people coming to support.

60th Wedding anniversary
Our resident Patrick ‘Terry’ Cunningham and his wife Mary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at our home. It was a very beautiful moment.

Bill goes garden shopping
William "Bill" loves gardening and this was a great opportunity for our maintenance team to take him out for gardening materials. They took him out shopping and then later worked on the unit's garden with the help of other residents. This is something his family says he loves doing and we could all see from the look on his face how much that meant for him.
