Activities at Newlands Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.
We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

Life at Newlands Care Home

Emma is surprise guest at family Christening
Emma has been a Resident with us since 2023 and simply enjoys the solitude of her room, a testament to the safe and secure feeling she gets from living at Newlands.
When the invitation came for her Great Granddaughters Christening, Emma, with some gentle persuasion from General Manager Kim found the courage to venture out and surprise her family at the celebration.
Our care team helped Emma dress for the occasion, adding some sparkle and glamour to her outfit. Emma's delight was clear to see from her beaming smile.

Emergency services Day
Emergency Services Day is a National day across the UK celebrated in recognition of the NHS and all emergency services. We expressed our gratitude to all local emergency services, volunteers and heroes by handing goodies and sweet treats to our local emergency services. We wanted to say thank you for all their hard work, sacrifice and dedication, it surely doesn’t go unnoticed.

Mexican Day Celebration
Our staff and residents had a great time celebrating Mexican Independence in the garden with lots of Mexican music, dress ups and nibbles. What a lovely atmosphere everyone had. Our lovely resident Sandra asked for some tequila and i think we delivered. Mexica celebrates its independence on the 16th of September each year and we were glad to be part of this celebration.

Supporting England at the Euros
Our Resident and staff were behind our boys at the Euros and they made sure not to miss a match. There was always excitement in the air when England was playing especially when they made it through each round. They all gathered together in the lounge to watch it on the big screens over “larger shandy” and popcorn. The final match got everyone on their feet as they watched with anticipation of bringing it home.

Olympics
Staff and residents at Newlands had a lot of fun during the Olympics. We created our version of the Olympics and this turned out to be a lot fun. Our staff and residents are very competitive and this was revealed as they showcased their strengths and talents. There was a lot of muscle strength testing and bragging rights challenges but above all the weather was very accommodating and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Gentlemen’s club
Our gents love gardening so much especially when the weather is great. Our gardens are looking amazing thanks to these amazing gentlemen. After gardening they sit down and relax for an afternoon tea in the garden. They chat about their favourite things to do and for some is reminiscing about the good old days. What a great way to spend the day with other residents under the beautiful sunny skies.
