Activities at Ouse View Care Home
We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.
Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ouse View Care Home
International Friendship Day
Ouse View had a blast celebrating Friendship Day on July 30. There were smiles all round as staff and residents reminisced about their friends and some of the wonderful times they had shared over the years.
Residents had the pleasure of an amazing visit from the North Yorkshire Fire Fighters! The residents enjoyed engaging conversations with the fire fighters while sipping on a glass of prosecco or nonsecco. The highlight of the day was a fascinating tour of the fire engine, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It truly was an incredible experience!
Homes come together for 'Big Quiz'
Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.
Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
National Ice Cream Day
Perfectly timed in the middle of a heatwave, staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View Care Home in Fulford York had a fantastic time celebrating National Ice Cream Day, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of cooling treats.
Local ice cream van, Mr Softy paid a surprise visit to the home and the excitement was palpable as everyone gathered in the foyer, eagerly anticipating what was to come. The mystery was soon revealed when Mr Softy pulled up right outside, playing its cheerful tune.
The residents' faces lit up with joy as they recognised the familiar sound from their childhood. One by one, they ventured outside in the lovely weather to choose their favourite ice cream treats.
Residents enjoy jazz performance
Residents and staff from Ouse View enjoyed a jazz performance by local musician, Claire Mortimer who performed a medley of summertime hits on the saxophone including – Summertime, Pink Panther, don’t worry be happy. Residents and guests gathered together in the lounge to enjoy the life performance, clapping as Claire performed her finale, Bare Necessities from the hit film, The Juggle Book.
To coincide the performance, it was also ‘National Cheese & Wine Day’ and residents and guests were able to tuck into a selection of cheese platters especially prepared by the home’s hospitality team.
Local drama group visit Ouse View
Residents enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live performance that took place at the home. Local group Drama Kids York performed their end of term production all about aliens.
Drama Kids York is a local drama school for children aged 6-16 that teach children to perform on stage by building their confidence through drama and acting games. The activities team reached out the class to see if they wanted to come and perform for the residents. They used the time to perform a fantastic play they had been practising as their dress rehearsal. After the show they played some acting games to show the residents what else they get up to in class, some residents even joined in!
Cook Off 2024
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
