Activities at Ouse View Care Home

Residents and guests enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer Trevor Woodhead performed a selection of classic hits from several artists including Elvis Presley, Elton John, Status Quo and Frankie Vallie.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song Delilah by Tom Jones. Residents were delighted to receive visitors from the local community Cathy and Sue who joined them for the concert and enjoyed a lovely glass of wine with the residents

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Ouse View was full of animal mischief on Thursday when the Joe’s exotic mobile zoo came to visit the home. Residents at Ouse View were pleasantly surprised to see meerkats roaming around their lounge as Joe’s exotic mobile zoo paid a visit. The meerkats were in a 6 by 6 run and stayed for an hour playing with each other, there were 3 meerkats.

General Manager said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today.  We knew that having the mobile zoo here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people. To see the faces of the residents light up when they saw the meerkats was a delight yesterday.”

Staff and residents brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea Day on June 28th by hosting an afternoon tea party in the foyer with local policemen, a wonderful selection of baked treats and of course, lots of lots of tea. Refusing to pick a side in the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, Ouse View enjoyed homemade scones both ways, all washed down with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

Residents and visitors tucked into the sweet and savoury goodies including cream cakes and scones, all baked by talented chef Loic. The residents were delighted when two policemen from Fulford police station joined them for cream tea and spent over an hour talking to them

Residents at Ouse View Care Home in Fulford York enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer Julie Fox  performed her memories in a suitcase show which included songs themed to items e.g. a bucket and spade – I do like to be beside the sea side. She also sung the classic hits including Sweet Caroline, Boom bang a bang and How much is that doggy in the Window.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song We’ll meet again by Vera Lynn. Julie also did a war time sing along section which got everyone singing and clapping. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for residents to enjoy during the show. The resident also enjoyed a glass of wine.

Ouse View  recently hosted an intergenerational playgroup for residents and members of the local community. The event, which took place on 17th June welcomed the group of Mums and their toddlers who live locally to enjoy music, games and activities with residents at the home. Ouse View had the privilege of welcoming Rhythm Time York into the home to join in activities with the residents. This was the first of many groups, they hope to run this activity every 3rd Monday of the month.

The group of mums and toddlers also enjoyed sing along with residents to their favourite songs such as Head shoulders knees and toes and The grand old duke of York and playing instruments with the residents. The catering team at the care home provide a selection of delicious buns on the day.
