Activities at Pinetree Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Beth Hooper
Hi my name is Beth and I am the activities co-ordinator
I have worked in care for the past 2 years as a carer and worked my way up to senior carer. My main responsibilities were looking after the frail, terminally ill and residents living with dementia. I found this role incredibly rewarding and had a sense of pride every day that I was in a position to be able to make a difference to the lives of our residents.
One of the most rewarding parts of the job is getting to know the residents on an individual basis and really finding out about what they love to do so my new role as activities co-ordinator combines the two perfectly. I love fun and laughter and finding new ways to enjoy life to the full. I am very excited about working a Pinetree and getting to know all of our residents

Life at Pinetree Care Home
Fun at the Fair and Mens Club
Yesterday we had the time of our lives with a little mixture of fun.
We were really lucky to have been joined by the wonderful Scott from S. Stibbards & Sons who entertained our residents and staff with fairground games and didnt we see the competitive sides come out.
The games were decorated in traditional styles and it brought back wonderful memories of childhood for the residents and the streak of fun they all remembered so well.
In the evening we hosted our first ever men's club with pizza and a pint in the bar. Our male residents invited their families and friends to join them and it was a lovely evening. They are very keen for the next one.
Remembrance Day Service
Pinetree held its own service of remembrance today with residents and staff joining in to commemorate our fallen heroes who have lost their lives in combat.
Our residents have been spending time lately decorating their beautiful communal spaces in home-made poppies and 2 of our lovely residents Hazel and Doreen have knitted poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legions Poppy Appeal.
We started our day with an open air service and we had the privilege of being joined by guests, Reverend Jackie Turner, Army cadet Jacob Robertson and our very talented cornet player Jared Chin A Loy.
Reverend Jackie began our service with a prayer and offering thanks. Jared serenaded us with 'The Last Post' whilst poppies fell from above to symbolise all those that lost their lives for us.
We then observed the 2 minute silence before our residents walked to their own memorial area to place their hand made crosses, of which they had all decorated with their own private message of thanks, whilst Jared played, Abide With Me.
After this very emotional part of the ceremony we all gathered in our lounge area and sang The National Anthem and Reverend Jackie shared a personal story of her grandmother and its poignant meaning during WWII.
Jacob, dressed in full cadet uniform read aloud 'Flanders Fields' to end the service.
It was a humbling ceremony which we all enjoyed and gave thanks and shared our own stories and memories.
Remembrance Day
Our residents have spent the morning watching the Remembrance Day service in their cosy lounges.
They have also spent time preparing their crosses for our very own service of remembrance tomorrow.
Two of our talented ladies also knitted poppies with all proceeds going the the Rotal British Legion.
We are proud of our home and how the staff and residents join together in unison to make special times even more special.
Resident Highlights Of The Week
As well as our wonderful bonfire night party this week our residents have enjoyed some particular activities which they have enjoyed the most including:
Getting into the Christmas spirit and painting some clay ornaments for their loved ones
Choosing their employee of the month
Sharing special times with staff
Gardening club whilst having a very talented violinist playing
Trip to Southend sea front
Its been quite the week for us all.
To be able to live life to the fullest at any age is quite something and that's exactly what all of our residents have done this week.
Pinetree First Bonfire Night
Pinetrees first firework display and what a success it was.
Our residents and their families and friends joined together for an evening of ooos and ahhhhhs whist we watched the beautiful display.
Everyone was treated to a warm buffet tea, music, a tipple of their choice and toasting marshmallows.
Residents commented on what a fantastic evening they had had and how lucky they felt to be able to experience all the highs of the event right in their very own home.
Seeing everyone together with their loved ones enjoying each others company over a shared love of a special occasion was truly uplifting.
Sunday Church Service
Three of our lovely ladies off for their Sunday church service.
It’s so important to learn about people individually and what matters to them.
We understand that faith is very personal and so to be able to take our residents to their regular church service safely is an honour.
It means they continue to enjoy what matters to them the most.
We strive daily to offer life enrichment to all of our residents to suit their lifestyles.
