Activities at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home
At Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home, our Lifestyle/Activities staff endeavour to provide a wide range of activities that suit all residents' physical and mental needs. There are regular minibus trips to nearby places of interest, including visits to local beaches and shows. We also have a film club, gentlemen's club, arts and crafts club, with musical entertainment once a week. Activities are very important to the staff of Plas-Y-Dderwen, making the home a fun and active place for all the residents who live here.
Lisa Peart
Hello, I am Lisa and I have recently joined the team at Plas y Dderwen. I have worked in the care sector since 2009 and I have a passion for working with people.
Although I am new to this role, I have always enjoyed being creative and bringing a smile and a sense of joy to others.
I am looking forward to developing an Activities programme that will bring enrichment to residents' lives through meaningful Activities.

Life at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home
Our New Visiting Pod
The pod opening was a fantastic day and we were lucky to be joined by some of the friends and families of Plas-Y-Dderwen.
Carmarthen’s own Mayor, Gareth John, oversaw the official opening day by cutting the ribbon and welcoming one of our residents and his wife as our first official visitors.
The loving couple, who had only been able to visit each other through the window for a number of months, were both over-joyed to be together again in the warmth and comfort of the pod.
Barchester has put in place plans to have these pods in as many as their homes as possible, and we are overjoyed to have been given the opportunity to provide this for our residents.
Remembrance Sunday
Residents at Plas-Y-Dderwen took great pride in making poppies and other decorative displays throughout the home as part of showing our appreciation for the heroic actions of our armed forces. The atmosphere on the day was wonderful as we all came together to watch the service at St David’s Cathedral.
Children in Need
As we all know, Children in Need is a time for the country to come together to help the youngest generation. As we are a home of people’s grandparents, they all jumped at the chance to wear their pyjamas all day, paint their faces, tell a cheeky joke or even cheer on our daredevil support staff as they raced down the corridors of Plas-Y-Dderwen in our charity sack race. All proceeds from our Children In Need event will be donated to the charity, along with any other donations given to the home.
Remembrance Day
Residents at Plas-Y-Dderwen in Johnstown took great pride in making poppies and other decorative displays throughout the home as part of showing our appreciation for the heroic actions of our armed forces this remembrance.
Furry Friends
Our rabbits have bought so much love to the home in the year that they’ve been here, and pet therapy is a key focal point for keeping up our residents' mental well-being.
Movie Night
As the weather changes to colder rainier days, our residents like nothing better than a good movie and some fresh, homemade popcorn.
