Activities at Rose Lodge Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Rose Lodge Care Home

Sensory story telling

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

International Women's Day

In recognition of International Women’s Day, we commemorated the wonderful achievements of women around the world and celebrated with themed activities and colourful flowers.

Our residents took part in discussions about the role of many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudica to Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie right and Queen Elizabeth II.

In the afternoon, they donned their best hats, placed their bets with a virtual trip to the races – enjoying refreshments and nibbles. A lovely day was had by all.

The Arctic Airship Italia

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Residents enjoy Shrove Tuesday

The staff and residents at Rose Lodge care home in Wisbech have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations.

Rose Lodge has marked this year’s Pancake Day with pancake flipping competition and of course, lots of pancakes! Sue O Riordan second chef at the home, flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.

Time to Talk

Residents at Rose Lodge made space in their day to enjoy conversations with each other as they hosted their ‘Time to Talk’ coffee morning.

Residents and staff came together and played a game, with each taking turns in asking a question as they learnt more about each other. It was good fun before they turned their attention to a sing-a-long. It was a feel good day!

Big Garden Birdwatch

Here at Rose Lodge, our residents were very excited to take part in this year’s Big Garden Birdwatch and they got their binoculars and bird books out to support the initiative.  The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual event to try to understand what is happening to our native birds. The idea is to log all the birds you see in your garden, from your window or in your local park in a one hour period any time between January 27th and 29th. Last year over 1 million people took part and between them they counted 17 million birds.   Our residents had a brilliant time filling up birdfeeders to attract the birds before they got started and then looking up the different species in their bird books to make sure they were logging them correctly.   It was a lovely time for everyone involved, especially the bird experts at the home.
