Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Father's Day celebrations

Residents at Scarborough Hall enjoyed a fun-filled day of games and activities in celebration of Father’s Day.   This year, due to the current situation, family and friends joined in the celebrations virtually via video call. Residents weren’t phased by this however, as they have become quite tech savvy at Skype calls, FaceTime, and online events. These platforms are an invaluable way to keep people connected with loved ones and friends, as well as with the local communities, during these unprecedented times.

Staff and residents enjoyed a day of playing games such as dominoes, quoits and skittles and gifts delivered by family members. A delicious Sunday lunch was prepared by the home’s chef for everyone to enjoy.

Home host knit and natter

Scarborough Hall have started their own Knit and natter project within the home.   Taking place every week residents get a chance to have fun knitting and talking to other residents within the home. The residents enjoy a slice of home-made cake and cup of tea as they catch up.  They enjoy catching up and chatting to each other about their favourite patterns, colours and designs.  The ladies have knitted projects for the community in the past we have knitted bobby bears for the police station, premature baby hats for the hospital and poppy’s for a display in our local church.

General Manager Charlotte Nurse said: “Although it is a small group for the knit and natter the ladies who attend really enjoy it. They engage well and always have something to talk about. The ladies enjoy picking up the needles and giving it their best shot! This group provides a valuable opportunity for some of our ladies to reflect on their past life experiences”.

Queen’s Birthday celebrations!

Residents of Scarborough Court had a busy few days in the lead up to the Queens official birthday by creating their own version of the ‘Crown Jewels’ as part of their interactive and popular craft club,   Resident, Lawrence Roberts even enjoyed being King for the day and winning in the afternoon’s bingo session, Lawrence wore the jewels with pride!

Not one to miss out. Raymond Wilcock member of the care team eagerly tried on the jewels for size to the delight of everyone!   Everyone enjoyed a fun-filled week of activities and celebrations.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Residents were eager to take advantage of the great outdoors to enjoy the sunshine with a peaceful afternoon in the home's beautiful grounds and conservatory, where they were able to enjoy the sounds of Buddy Holly songs in the background, which soon had them singing along to and reminiscing about their favourite music and singers.

With the warm weather to keep everyone cool and fresh, everyone enjoyed a refreshing ice lolly. For some just to wander and sit in the home's gardens was enough. There was also a friendly game of dominoes for others. A wonderful time was had by all!

A Royal Celebration

As the nation prepares to celebrate Queen’s birthday, residents of Scarborough Hall have come together to paint the home red, white and blue with their Union Jack colouring, creating priceless jewels of their own with crown jewels made from cardboard and papier-mâché.

The residents got together as part of their popular interactive arts and crafts session, and as the sun shone outdoors they had a good old chat, reminiscing about their experiences and what they had done during the Queen's Jubilee, remembering the street parties and communities coming together just like now.

Home Celebrates Resident's Return

Scarborough Hall care home has welcomed home a resident, 84 year old Muriel Tipper, 84 years young. Muriel has recently spent a period of time in Scarborough Hospital, whilst in hospital Muriel tested positive to Covid-19.

After excellent care and treatment by all the doctors and nurses at Scarborough Hospital Muriel returned home after recovering. Staff, residents and guests commemorated the day with afternoon tea and made a great fuss over Muriel as everyone has been delighted that she has overcome and returned to the home.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse of Scarborough Hall said: “Today has been all about celebrating Muriel’s return and it has been great fun for everyone. Our staff and the people who live here have really got involved with the celebrations and have really enjoyed themselves. In these unprecedented times with so much negativity in the media, we wanted to share the good news and give people some hope. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Scarborough Hall for their dedication and commitment to the home not only at this time but over the years’”
