Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Clapping for Carers

Residents of Scarborough Hall recently braved the windy elements and showed their appreciation and support for the 5.00 pm ‘Clapping for carers’ to recognise key workers of the NHS and the health sector including the carers of the home. Residents also remembered friends and loved ones they have lost during this pandemic by lighting candles in the homes reception.

In the lead up to this, Residents  created a splash of colour as they came together to create ‘thank you’ messages to display at the homes entrance for all to see over a delicious slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea.

World Chocolate Day

Armed Forces Day

As Scarborough was due to host the Armed Forces Day celebrations this year, Scarborough Hall activity co-ordinators had big plans for the residents which unfortunately had to be altered due to the pandemic and the event being cancelled.   The veterans at Scarborough Hall still managed to celebrate the special day, starting off by watching the red arrows go by out of the homes lovely big windows on top floor.

In the afternoon the celebrations continued as the activity team spent time with residents who served in the armed forces using the virtual event available online.  Navy veteran Lawrence Roberts enjoyed the videos which were available using the iPad which he really enjoyed and was amazed at the technology.

As activities continued Residents gathered together adhering to social distance guidelines to enjoy a sing-a-long led by the Yorkshire regiment with a wonderful tribute to Dame Vera Lynn’s 'We’ll meet again' followed by stories told by veteran Ron Ruston who was proud as punch to be sharing his memories and tales with the other Residents.

A breath of fresh air

Residents of Scarborough Hall have been taking advantage of the good weather to enjoy the homes beautiful gardens. Everyone commented on how much better they felt for grabbing a breath of fresh air, feeling the sun on their faces and checking on the progress of the plants, with the homes keen gardeners checking in on them.

Resident, Bill  was keen to share his stories when he grew flowers for shows and how he’d won plenty of ribbons and trophy’s including from the prestigious Harrogate Flower Show.  Bill’s wife, Sheila proudly accompanied him to many of the shows.   Bill even pondered the quality of the homes efforts that afternoon as he fondly remembered one of his favourite pastimes. Another resident, Jenny enjoyed a gentle walk around the garden spotting passing planes in the sky.

Father's Day celebrations

Residents at Scarborough Hall enjoyed a fun-filled day of games and activities in celebration of Father’s Day.   This year, due to the current situation, family and friends joined in the celebrations virtually via video call. Residents weren’t phased by this however, as they have become quite tech savvy at Skype calls, FaceTime, and online events. These platforms are an invaluable way to keep people connected with loved ones and friends, as well as with the local communities, during these unprecedented times.

Staff and residents enjoyed a day of playing games such as dominoes, quoits and skittles and gifts delivered by family members. A delicious Sunday lunch was prepared by the home’s chef for everyone to enjoy.
