Activities at Seaview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are exercise classes and a walking group, regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest including local concerts, as well as weekly visits from a PAT dog, and regular visits from musicians and entertainers, as well as church services which are held twice a month. We also host a weekly social event in which we encourage residents from the whole home to socialise together.

Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Seaview is fun and active.

Life at Seaview House Care Home

National Cream Tea Day

Staff and residents at Seaview brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea Day on June 25th by hosting an afternoon tea party in the garden with live entertainment, a wonderful selection of baked treats and of course, lots of pots of tea.

Refusing to pick a side in the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, Seaview enjoyed homemade scones both ways, all washed down with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

The great outdoors

Ah the great outdoors. When the sun is out we love to spend time in our garden at Seaview. It’s looking lovely this time of year too. We’ve had some beautiful days recently. Here’s hoping for a long, warm summer.

Icelandic adventures for residents

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives. We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

WW2 talk with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Pet therapy

Today was Barty’s first visit back to Seaview. He’s our Therapet and has only been visiting virtually throughout the past year. We got to see him for a garden visit and he was just as delighted as we were. Barty will now resume his weekly visits to Seaview garden and hopefully return to indoor visits before the winter.
