Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home
National Scrabble day
We enjoy a game of Scrabble here at Shawford Springs & have an ongoing tournament with weekly matches taking place in our café. Currently Tony is leading the rankings…. so the question is can anyone knock him off the top spot before the end of the month & claim the prize?
Classic Bikers visit - Sammy Miller Museum
This week we enjoyed an afternoon outing to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum in the New Forest.
Not only did we enjoy looking at the glorious array of motorbikes from the across the decades, but we also loved saying hello to the various animals who live on site.
The trip brought back lots of memories for the residents, particularly Jeanette whose family were all bikers & often took rides to the museum.
Thank you to the staff for a warm welcome, I’m sure we’ll be back for a return visit.
"Sweet Caroline" .... afternoon sing along
Singer and entertainer Marcus joined us yesterday afternoon for a wonderful sing along session with residents enjoying songs from the 50’s and 60’s
Favourites were Sweet Caroline and Moon River
We look forward to welcoming Marcus back very soon
Community - Easter Bunny Donation -Naomi House and Jacksplace
This week we visited Naomi House & Jacksplace in Winchester to deliver a special Easter gift of handmade knitted bunnies for the children at the hospice.
The bunnies were created by the ladies of our knit and natter group, who made over 30 in total in a variety of colours.
We were welcomed at the hospice by Supporter Services Advisor Shirlie, who thanked us for our donation & kindly invited us back for a tour later in the year.
The knit & natter group were delighted to be able to spread a little bit of Easter cheer to their local community with their knitted companions & are now busy planning their next project.
Ready, Steady, Easter Bake....
This afternoon we gathered in our cafe for our annual Easter bake off contest!
A selection of delicious bakes were entered into the contest, which gave the judges a difficult decision when it came to choosing a winner…
However we are delighted to announce that the top 3 bakers were: Réka who came in 3rd place with her chocolate & walnut cake. Jo & Mike who were 2nd with their Easter brownie and in 1st place was Bella with her beautifully decorated lemon cake! A big well done to everyone who took part, we thoroughly enjoyed sampling all the scrumptious entries.
Easter Baking for the grand Easter bake Off
This week Elisa & David have been busy baking carrot cakes & cupcakes for our Easter Bake Off Contest tomorrow. We can’t wait to try them - hopefully they will score highly with the judges!
