Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Shawford Springs Care Home
Gardening Club
We had a brilliant turn out at our weekly gardening club. We had a productive time planting, weeding & tidying and the sun even made an appearance for us! A big thank you to everyone who took part, the garden is starting to look lovely!
Out and About in the Community - Harold Hillier Gardens
This week we enjoyed an outing to the café at Sir Harold Hillier Arboretum and Gardens near Romsey. Everyone had a lovely time and the shortbread was delicious!
Hampshire Hawks - Birds of Prey visit
What a treat we had this week when the wonderful Anita from Hampshire Hawk Walks visited us with three of her gorgeous Birds of Prey!
Anita gave a fascinating talk about each of the birds, starting with London the Harris Hawk, followed by Doogal the Kestral & Willow the Barn Owl. We then had the opportunity to hold Willow, which was a magical experience for all.
We’d like to thank Anita and her beautiful birds for visiting us and providing such an enjoyable and interesting talk. We loved meeting all the birds and are looking forward to arranging another visit in the future.
A walk in our local Woods....
Over the weekend Barry & Jeanette enjoyed a lovely walk in the woodland opposite the home. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and it was wonderful to be able to get out and enjoy the nature on our doorstep.
Winchester A Capella - Ladies who sing....
A big Thank You To the ladies and their beautiful voices from Winchester A Capella who kindly visited our home at the weekend with their very clever renditions of a range of classic songs. We loved listening to you
We are Sailing....
This week we visited Testwood Lakes in Totton for a very special sailing experience courtesy of Testwood Lakes Sailability.
The group offer accessible dingy sailing for people of all ages & have a wheelchair accessible pontoon fitted with hoists to lift sailors in and out of the boats. This meant that we could all get out on the water & enjoy a sunny afternoon’s sailing with their team of dedicated volunteers.
The trip brought back many happy memories for everyone who took part. David reminisced about sailing trips with the scouts, whilst Jackie remembered days spent sailing on the river Clyde. For Geoff it was a particularly special trip, as he is an avid sailor and spent many years sailing in his own yacht around the British Isles & beyond. Meanwhile Barry had asked to go sailing as part of our ‘Meaningful Moments’ initiative, so we were delighted to be able to fulfil his wish.
We’d like to thank the brilliant group of volunteers who give up their time to run the Sailability sessions, we all had a wonderful afternoon and can’t wait to return again soon!
