Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Goat Therapy

This week we had a very special visit from Arnie & Trevor who are two baby Pygmy goats.  They spent an hour taking a stroll around the home meeting everyone & having lots of cuddles.

A big thank you to Em at Ems friendly farm for bringing them to meet us this afternoon. We all loved seeing them - it really brightened everyone’s day & was definitely a cuteness overload!

Community Links - Chat Tea Cafe visit

This week we visited the wonderful Chat Tea Cafe at Badger Farm Community Centre. The cafe takes place on the last Monday of the month and is run by a brilliant team of volunteers.

They were celebrating their 5 year anniversary yesterday & we were delighted to be a part of the celebrations. A big thank you to Sheana & the team for making us feel so welcome & for the delicious cake! We are looking forward to attending again in the future.

Chinese New year - a celebration

Last week we had our monthly armchair travel day & this month we decided to visit China!

We enjoyed a delicious 3 course Chinese meal courtesy of our Head Chef Clifford, which included spring rolls, sweet & sour chicken, noodles & fortune cookies.

Then in the afternoon we watched a Chinese New Year concert by the China National Traditional Orchestra in our cinema room.

Our brilliant night carer Tim also created beautiful bookmarks for everyone with their names written on in Cantonese.

A big thank you to both Tim & Clifford for making the day so special. We are looking forward to our next armchair travel day - next month we’ll be visiting Peru

The Army Flying Museum - Out and about

Last week our Men’s Club took a trip to the fantastic Army Flying Museum near Stockbridge.

It was a fascinating afternoon which brought back many memories for the gents. Vernon shared his experiences of learning to fly planes, along with the time he got to have a flight in the legendary spitfire. Meanwhile Tony told us stories of his time in the military, which included servicing planes & helicopters including the skeeter model (one of which was on display at the museum.)

All in all it was brilliant afternoon & the gents are looking forward to exploring some of our other local military museums in the future.

Gardening Club

This morning we managed to catch a break in the rain to get our hanging baskets potted. A big thank you to our lovely Lys for giving us a hand

Ukulele Fun

Last week we were entertained by Matthew and his ukulele. The residents joined in by singing and clapping to an assortment of tunes from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s

A big Thank You to Matthew for a great afternoon’s entertainment, we look forward to welcoming you back very soon
