Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home
Tea, chat and a visit to Brambridge Garden centre
Recently some of our ladies enjoyed a trip to Brambridge Park Garden Centre for a wander & cuppa in the café. Brambridge is a favourite destination of ours and a bonus is it’s only a short drive away.
Shawford Springs Speakers Corner Community Event - The Ghosts of Winchester
We’d like to say a big thank you to local expert Matthew for visiting us on Monday as part of our Monthly Speakers Corner event.
He gave a fascinating talk on the ‘Ghosts of Winchester’, in which he shared tales of the ghosts who are said to haunt some of Winchester’s historic buildings including the Cathedral & Buttercross monument.
We all found it incredibly interesting and it was the perfect event to lead us into our Halloween celebrations.
Arts and Crafts club
We’ve been painting poppies in our weekly arts & crafts club as part of our Remembrance Day preparations. Painting is a popular activity amongst our residents as it’s both relaxing & therapeutic.
Birthday Celebrations
This week we wished our wonderful Marie a very Happy Birthday. Marie isn’t a fan of cake, so our kitchen team decided to make her a special biscuit treat instead to celebrate.
All Hallows Eve
We’ve had a great time celebrating the spookiest day of the year at our ‘All Hallows’ Eve’ party. The dining room was adorned in Autumnal decorations for the occasion and we enjoyed an afternoon of cocktails, music, singing & dancing. A big thank you to the wonderful Helen for performing for us, we all had a brilliant time.
New Forest - Out and about
This week we enjoyed a lovely Autumnal drive through the New Forest taking in the villages of Bramshaw & Brook. We were fortunate to see lots of ponies & donkeys en-route plus we also spotted a couple of the pigs who roam the forest during Autumn eating acorns which can be poisonous to the ponies & cattle.
Before heading home, we stopped off at the charming Green Dragon Pub for a round of drinks. Cheers!
