Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home
Gardening Club - Resident Gardener Lys
We’d like to say a big thank you to our resident gardener Lys, for doing a great job replanting our hanging baskets ready for Autumn.
Yesterday her & Jo (our Activity Coordinator) took a walk to our lovely neighbours at George Beckett Nurseries to buy some autumn bedding plants & then this morning they planted them in the baskets. We are looking forward to seeing them in bloom!
Armchair Travel Club - Germany _ Proust ... Cheers!
Yesterday we visited Germany for our monthly armchair travels. We enjoyed a delicious themed lunch in the dining room, followed by German beer tasting with snacks in the afternoon to celebrate Oktoberfest.
In our Mini Bus Out and about
Yesterday morning we enjoyed a lovely outing to Brambridge Park Garden Centre. We had leisurely stroll around the shop & plant area before taking a break in the lovely cafe for tea & coffee.
Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome, we are looking forward to returning to see the Christmas display, which is always fabulous!
1950's Party
What a wonderful time we had at our Fabulous 50’s party yesterday afternoon! We’d like to say a big thank you to singer Sarah for performing an hour of 50’s hits from classic show tunes to rock n’ roll greats (and for getting us all dancing with the hand jive too!)
The Power of the Flower - Community Event
Last week we had a fabulous time at our ‘Power of the Flower’ Community Event.
We were treated to a brilliant hands on flower workshop with Sara, in which we created a special floral group arrangement, followed by a presentation on floral essential oils with Sally & Liz.
We'd like to say a big thank you to all who came along, it was a wonderful evening & a special thanks to Sara, Sally & Liz for sharing their time & expertise with us.
Don't Dine Alone
Today we were joined by Paula and Patsy two lovely ladies from our local community who enjoyed a light lunch on us as part of our Don't Dine Alone community initiative. The ladies had a lovely time chatting with our residents in one of our dining rooms whilst enjoying a freshly prepared meal cooked by our chef Clifford
Lunch was followed by a freshly brewed coffee and a natter in our cafe ....
