Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd
Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

The Watercress Line - Making Tracks
This week two of our gents, Barry & Alan enjoyed a special trip on The Watercress Line, which took them on a scenic ride from Alresford to Alton & back.
There was plenty to see along the route including the pretty station of Ropley, along with views of the beautiful Hampshire countryside.
We’d like to thank the staff & volunteers at the Watercress Line for their assistance at the station & for making our trip so enjoyable

Out and about - Cheers
This week we had our first men’s club outing with a trip to The Old Forge in Otterbourne for drinks & a good old chin wag. Cheers!

Blooming Lovely.... Dahlias Galore
This morning some of our ladies enjoyed a trip to Gilberts Dahlias in Sherfield English for a look at their stunning Dahlias. They have hundreds of varieties in an array of beautiful colours and their dahlia field is a such a treat to see in full bloom.

Out and about - The White Horse
We enjoyed a lovely trip to one of our local pubs, the White Horse Otterbourne for a round of drinks in the sunshine this week
We can’t think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon! Cheers

Summer Fair
What a fantastic time we had on Saturday at our first ever Summer Fair!
The afternoon kicked off with a mini dog show, which was judged by our Manager, Julie & resident judge, Lys. They had the task of awarding prizes for various categories including the ‘best bark,’ ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘prettiest pooch’. A big well done to all the winning dogs - we always love having our four legged friends at the home.
We then enjoyed an hour of live music courtesy of singer Helen, who performed a lovely selection of summer songs. Lots of people commented on how much they enjoyed the entertainment, so thank you Helen
There were also fresh scones & Pimms for refreshments along with a raffle & body shop table. So another thank you to our local body shop representative Jade, for giving up her afternoon to attend.
And lastly a huge thank you to everyone who came along, we were delighted with the turnout. It really was a fantastic afternoon.

Memorable Moments - Happy Hooves
This week we arranged a very special trip for our lovely resident, Lys. Lys often speaks fondly about the horse she used to own called Warwick.
Lys bought Warwick as a yearling from a friend & had him for many years, he was her ‘Baby Boy’.
So, we decided to take her on a trip to Helping Hooves UK, who provide therapy sessions with their beautiful veteran horses in Swanmore. It’s an idyllic & peaceful setting, the perfect place to switch off from day to day life.
Lys got to meet many of the horses during her visit including, Levi - an Irish Cob, Toffee - a New Forest Pony & Marmite the Shetland Pony. All the horses were such characters and really enjoyed being cuddled & groomed! It certainly brought back memories for Lys, but she’s rather glad that she doesn’t have to get up early every morning now to do the mucking out
