Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
National Relaxation Day
We spent some time unwinding and slowing down through relaxing our minds, bodies and senses in recognition of #NationalRelaxationDay.
Our residents enjoyed a morning of chatting about their childhoods along with a cuppa and biscuits. We continued to unwind and relax in the afternoon by pampering our ladies. Some ladies chose to have their nails painted, or have their hair done whilst some had both of these treatments. It wouldn’t be a relaxing afternoon without a bottle of wine to hand.
We had a discussion about different ways of relaxing and we all enjoyed our chill day.
Remembering Auld Dundee/ Historical Events
Residents enjoyed spending the morning in the café reminiscing about fond memories of Dundee, reading previous local newspapers from the 70’s and reading Dundonian poems.
Everyone had a story to tell about the great dancing years attending ‘Robbies in the Hakkie’, the great Monkey Parade and the City Arcade where you couldn’t ‘get your bairns aff Champion the wonder horse’.
Resident shared their favourite memories from dancing the night away and forgetting their curfews to their ‘Nappers’ furniture store visits.
Gran Fondo road races in Monifieth
Residents and their families enjoyed a morning out to watch cyclists who had come from all over the world to participate in the Gran Fondo road races in Monifieth.
Gran Fondos are officially defined and certified by the Italian Cycling Federation as a bicycle event at least 120 kilometres (75 mi) long, and are individually chip-timed (start to finish) races with prizes for the fastest riders in each category.
Great morning out especially with the sun shining!
A Ride on a Trishaw
Margaret was delighted to have an afternoon out on the trishaw this afternoon. Margaret was amazed of the development of our local area and being able to chat with others in the community and can’t wait for her next ride on the trishaw.
We are so thankful for the kindness of the volunteers who work with Cycling Without Age Monifieth!
Double birthday celebrations!
South Grange celebrated two birthdays today. Alan celebrated his 80th birthday and Stella celebrated her 90th birthday.
Residents enjoyed opening all of their gifts from staff, friends and family and had visits from friends and family.
Morning Fun at South Grange
This morning we had something a little different, residents have previously spoke about fond memories of visiting local target practices so we decided to try our own target range.
Residents all took turns at the different targets and chatted about their previous visits with friends and family in the past. Everyone done extremely well and all are looking forward to our next sessions.
Well done to Frances who had the highest target score of 400!
