Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Wallace Collection

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.

Intergenerational visit

Residents of South Grange recently enjoyed a morning with the children from the homes local nursery.  Residents have always enjoyed the homes intergenerational links and it was great to finally be able to welcome the children back indoors after all this time, we are now looking forward to resuming our weekly visits.

An afternoon tasting session

Residents enjoyed the afternoon tasting a range of different savoury and sweet treat.  A range of food was on offer such as different types of dips, cheeses, crackers then secondly a tray of different sweet cakes such as fudges, fresh baked cakes, chocolates and much more.

Residents enjoyed talking to each other about the different flavours and reminiscing of memories that related to the taste.  Residents were delighted they attended the activity and said it had been “the best taster session they had ever been too”.

,

Delicious milkshakes!

Residents enjoyed making their on milkshakes from a range of different sweet treats, such as chocolates, fruits, ice-creams and toppings. Residents enjoyed reminiscing while making refreshing treats.

Garden project

After a long few months and weather permitting our project is now completed with the help of residents, staff, we decorated our potting shed ,the grounds with colourful plants and pots, and created a designated seating area for the summer months.

Music through the ages

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.
