Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
A hole in one...
South grange residents were delighted with their new putting green, our maintenance team Sam and Paul got to work in the garden and designed a small putting course. Michael one of our seven arches residents was the first to trial it with one of our activity team. He was super pleased as he got a hole in one.
World Chocolate Day
Today we revelled in all things sweet for World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolatey activities. Our residents enjoyed an exciting baking class, where they made delicious chocolate cakes which they decorated with the assistance of our Chef, tasting experience, where they had the chance to try different chocolate bars from all over the world.
In the afternoon, we took part in themed quiz, tasted our delicious treats and had a discussion about all things chocolate. A wonderful day was had by all.
Book Club with Dr Tim Howard
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
Just passing through
Our residents had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.
Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.
Our residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world.
Virtual singing session
Our homes had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.
Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.
There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Nursery visit brings joy to residents
South Grange celebrated National Picnic Week by inviting the local nursery to join them for a picnic in the garden, thankfully the weather stayed dry and sunny. The children and the residents had a fabulous day playing with all the garden games, having a sing-along and eating their picnic lunches.
Michael from our seven arches unit presented the teacher and children with a project of wood work he had been working on, they were over the moon with his alphabet board made out of wood. It was a lovely day which we all enjoyed and were grateful to be able to do again.
