Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

World Chocolate Cake Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s South Grange care home had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!

General Manager, Fiona Torrie said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was an International Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”

Burns celebrations at South Grange

South Grange celebrated Rabbie Burns day kicking off with a  Scottish quiz, which residents and staff were able to answer, testing their Scottish heritage before tucking into the traditional Haggis, tatties and neeps, washed down with a wee dram.   The day was finished off with a socially distanced Scottish get together with plenty of music and toe tapping with a little more of their favourite tipple!

The King is in the building!

The King was in the building as South Grange celebrated Elvis’s birthday with a themed day, with a few of his most devoted fans getting into the spirit of the day.  Frank, resident of Seven Arches even donned his Elvis outfit to the delight of everyone.  There was a little competitiveness as residents took part in an Elvis themed quiz and enjoying American hot dogs, burgers a firm favourite of the King whilst his hits played in the background.

Christmas celebrations

Residents at South Grange were delighted Christmas Eve when Santa paid a visit to the home delivering presents for everyone.  Each resident received a lovely gift which was placed under the Christmas tree to open on Christmas morning.

Celebrations started with present opening from family, friends and Santa before everyone enjoyed a pre-dinner dinner before the traditional Christmas lunch was served.

Residents were also able to enjoy family visits in the homes designated visitor suite with one resident remarking, “that was the best present ever!”

Home amongst first to receive vaccinations

Staff and residents at Barchester South Grange care home, in Monifieth, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at South Grange care home, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Fiona Torrie said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Christine Penman staff member at South Grange said: “After 30 years working at south grange the last one has been the most challenging”. I am so pleased to be given the vaccine.  It will help to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal and having a buzz of visitors in the home once again.”

Gentleman's lunch

Keeping residents stimulated and social active is important and with this in mind, the homes activities team created a ‘gentleman’s lunch’ in the homes provide snug where they were treated to a variety of tasters, a mouth-watering main and delicious sweet fayre.

It was a tremendous success for the gentleman coming together to simply catch up as friends together, the home will be continuing so anniversaries, birthdays and simple get together’s can be enjoyed in style.
