Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Residents take peek inside Cathedral
We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.
We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.
It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.
National Fish & Chip day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s South Grange care home in Monifieth had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Friday 4th June, surely one of the best days of the year!
Bell Rock Chippy in Arbroath delivered Fish and chip for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients. The sun was shining so residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips in paper with wooden forks in time-honoured tradition. Later on they enjoyed a quiz where they were tested on fun fish & chip facts.
Operational Manager, Fiona Torrie, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”
Fozia italia at South Grange
Residents at South Grange in Monifieth have been discovering all things Italiano in celebration of Festa della Republblica or Italian National Day, which took place on Wednesday 2nd June.
The date marks the official formation of the Republic of Italy after World War II.
Residents took part in Italian-themed activities throughout the day including an Italian quiz, virtual trips to Rome, Florence, Venice and the Amalfi Coast to Sicily which everyone really enjoyed. The favourite activity of the day however was food tasting and a 3 course Italian meal made by head chef, Alan Hooks.
Fiona Torrie, Operational Manager at South Grange said: “We’ve all had a brilliant day learning and reminiscing about all the wonderful things to see and do in Italy. Many of our residents have travelled to Italy so it was lovely for them to be able to share their memories. We have all enjoyed some fantastic food today, Italian Day might become a regular thing menu-wise from now on!”
Virtual trip to a Safari Park
Here at South Grange in Monifieth we were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.
Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats and many more!
We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.
Home take the biscuit
Whether you’re a die-hard Digestive fan, a Ginger Nut, or go crazy for a Custard Cream, National Biscuit Day, celebrated on May 28th, is the perfect day for you. And it was certainly a day of fun-filled biscuit dunking for the staff and residents at South Grange care home in Monifieth.
To mark the celebration of the nation’s favourite biscuits, residents tucked into a variety of different options, which of course, were paired with a good old cup of tea. There was much fun to be had taking part in biscuit themed quizzes, chats about all things biscuits finding out about the history of the biscuit dunking and biscuit tasting.
Fiona Torrie, Operational Manager at South Grange said: “All our residents love tucking into the freshly baked biscuits our chef makes every day but National Biscuit Day gave us the perfect excuse to nibble even more than normal! We all had great fun tasting all the different types of biscuits and deciding which our favourites were!”
