Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Residents enjoy Gingerbread Day

Staff and residents at Barchester South Grange care home in Monifieth love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!

The staff and residents asked head chef Ian Hornsby to whip up a big batch of gingerbread for them and then they got busy decorating with icing, selection of sweets, festive decorations and edible glitter to make the glitziest gingerbread house in town.

General Manager, Fiona Torrie, said: “We were all so excited when we found out there was a Gingerbread House Day, what a fantastic excuse to spend the day making gorgeous festive decorations. The best thing about it is that we get to eat it now – delicious!”

Creating festive wreaths

Residents and staff at South Grange were treated to a demonstration on wreath making by the homes assistant chef, Vicky who is also a trained florist.  Residents were intrigued with how wreaths are created and thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration and were suitably impressed with the finished product which is now proudly displayed at the homes entrance.  Residents like show their creative sides with the homes popular arts and craft sessions.

National Elf Day

Residents and colleagues at South Grange has some fun as they celebrated National Elf Day with a member of the homes activities team dressing as an Elf and hiding Elves around the home in a game of hide and seek for Residents tto find.

Everyone joined in the search and if a Resident spotted one they received a Christmas goodie!  There was lots of laughter and excitement during the hunt before everyone settled down to enjoy festive movie – Elf accompanied by a cup of delicious hot chocolate or a glass of Baileys.

World Kindness Day

Residents and staff at South Grange had a lovely day celebrating World Kindness day. They had an idea to bring everyone together by knitting a scarf to go round the home and in doing so wrapping it in kindness.

Everyone got on board and the knitting began, which even reached out to sister home, Fordmill who help with the mission to complete, their help was very much appreciated.

South Grange is a multi-cultural home and we took into consideration for World Kindness in different languages and what it meant, residents and staff found this very interesting.

Life enrichment opportunities for Residents

The fun and laughter has continued at South Grange care home, in Monifieth as residents recently enjoyed trying pizza making, sending post cards to families and friends, making flower stands out of old pallets, newspaper reading, bingo, and judging photos of the staffs pet dog competition

Residents at South Grange have enjoyed our engaging activities programmes consisting of virtual concerts from popular local entertainers, virtual worship services, armchair exercise sessions and have taken to Skype and WhatsApp to their nearest and dearest  arranged by the homes’ activities team for residents within the home and local community groups.
