Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Stacey Davies

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Making memories to last a lifetime

We have been busy working together to create some memory boxes for the residents to keep in their rooms. We wanted to create a space where residents can reflect on memories of the past, but also keep new memories and souvenirs of our trips out and exciting things we do in the home.

On the tee from Southerndown......

FORE!!!!!!!!!

We have officially opened our mini golf course here at Southerndown Care Home. With the warm weather, The Open, and the golf at the Olympics this week, we wanted to get in the spirit of the game and provide a permanent feature to our lovely gardens. With a number of residents having previously been fanatic golfers its the perfect spot for a bit of fun, at the opportunity to keep fit whilst reminiscing over past hobbies. We were even joined by family and friends for the opening which was officially opened by our Golf Captain Phillipa!

A trip to Chippy Landmark!

We loved our visit to St Mary's Church last week and was lucky enough to visit when it was open so popped in for a look around. We also visited the famous Cornish Almshouses which everyone in Chipping Norton knows is a popular landmark in for the local community. We love getting out and about and look forward to some more trips this week.

Olympic Opening Ceremony 2024

HAPPY OLYMPIC CEREMONY 2024!!

What a fantastic afternoon we had in the sunshine, with our very own Olympic Opening Ceremony at Southerndown Care Home. We had a parade around the home, with the Olympic Flag, and our very own Olympic torch, with the lighting of the beginning of the event in our lovely gardens. We had golf, football, archery, basketball and hoops just to name a few, with everyone taking part including our amazing visitors that came along for the event.

We even had a delicious BBQ with burgers, chicken, kebabs, team coloured cakes and some home made lemonade and pimms.

A huge thank you to all the team at Southerndown for the efforts and putting this together. It was an amazing afternoon and we look forward to more Olympic activities over the coming weeks.
