Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Southerndown's Baking Club

Southerndowns baking club with Sasha is fast becoming our highlight of the week we love meeting on a Monday and baking bread or baking cakes.

We also really enjoy the taste testing, and deciding what to bake for the next week.

Diddly Squat Farm Shop

We had a fantastic time on our outing at Diddly Squat Farm Shop, we braved the typical English weather and had a great time.

We also had a lovely time driving around Chad and  Chipping Norton to see the beautiful countryside.

Spring is in the Air

Here at Southerndown we have been making the most of the lovely spring weather and we are amazed at our wonderful spring bulbs that the Gardening Club planted back in September. The trough was made by our talented Head of Maintenance Steve, and the bulbs were planted in a lasagne fashion. We are just thrilled with how they have turned out. The Gardening Club are now excited to start their next projects.

Fall Fighters

Southerndown was proud to visit Willow Gardens Chipping Norton to present our Barchester Healthcare/ RoSPA Fall Fighters  campaign to increase awareness of how to prevent the pain and distress caused by falls in our local community. We had a fantastic reception and it was lovely to meet so many new people and discuss falls prevention around the home.

Come For Tea

Southerndown was proud to hold the St Marys Church ‘come for Tea’ event today.

We had so much fun and we really enjoyed holding the event and meeting so many new people.

We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea made by our amazing chef Peter and we even had time for a mini reminiscence quiz.

A visit from Chipping Norton Fire Station.

Today we had a special visit from the Chipping Norton Fire Station.

The firefighters were amazing and they even brought the fire engine for us to have a look at. We talked about the amazing roles they play in our local community and we also talked about fire safety around the home. It was a really great visit and we all hope that they can come and visit us again soon.
