Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Oooo you jammy tart!

This week we rolled back the years in our Baking Club by making some traditional jam flavoured tarts. It took us back to school days and the summer picnics and with the weather warming up this week was the perfect treat for us all!

Men's Club launch was a huge success

This week we launched our brand new Men's Club exclusive to the male residents and staff in the home! With basketball, archery lessons and some lovely chilled beers it was such a great way to spend some time together, talk about all things football from the weekend and get involved in the activities. This will now be a monthly club, along with the ladies night launching in August alongside!

Opening Up Our Resident Clinic

We had a great afternoon with our Resident Ambassador Dr Sheila Parker, who spent over 30 years of her working career as a local Doctor and GP. Having heard all of her wonderful stories, we decided to setup a weekly clinic for her, so she can give staff and fellow residents some check up's and helpful tips to improve the way we live.

Its lovely to be able to bring purpose and meaning into the lives of those we look after here at Southerndown.

Dementia Cafe is a Massive Hit!

Our Dementia Community Cafe is a massive hit!

We had a great time celebrating and inviting the community into our home. During the event, guest was treated to a live show from Rosie, performing a range of hits from the decades, as well as receiving complimentary refreshments and freshly baked cakes made by the home’s kitchen team.

Classic Car pays special visit

We had a delightful surprise at Southerndown Murray, one of our wonderful residents and a classic car enthusiast, brought along his beloved Alvis (not to be confused with Elvis!). Murray has cherished this beauty since the 1970s, taking it on adventures across America and France, and now, it's gracing us here at Southerndown
