Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Getting ready for the Olympics!
We have been in full swing getting ready for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics kick starting this week. As we finalise plans for some of our own olympics games in Southerndown including the opening of our very own golf course this week, we decided to get in the spirit early and make our own Olympic torches ready for the opening ceremony this week! We will parade them around the home and garden and get everyone in the mood for some friendly competition in the coming days!

Pamper Day at Southerndown
After the success of our new Gentleman's Club last week, we felt it only right that the ladies got in on the action! So we arranged a pamper day in Southerndown using our spa room which we have in the home. We made our own natural skin care products using ingredients such as oats, honey and avocado's with egg whites, before treating our residents to a soft hand massage. General Manager Arlene spent the morning talking to the ladies about the benefits of natural skin care and how it can help.
It looked amazing and the ladies have already requested it again next week!

Garden Centre Trip Out
We had a lovely afternoon trip out to the garden centre this weekend. It was so nice to see all of the beautiful plants blossoming and we picked up a few bits for the garden while we there. Of course no trip out is complete without stopping off for cake and tea!

Professional Breakfast
Every month we host a Professional Breakfast for all Healthcare Workers and Emergency Service workers that work hard to help the communities in and around Oxford. This week we had visitors drop in for takeaway breakfast and also invited them to join for a full english prepared by our wonderful chef! We love giving back to the community!

Nelson Mandela's Birthday
We celebrated all things Africa today to mark the special occasion that would of been Nelson Mandela's Birthday. We discussed all things history, traditional African clothing and were treated to some special facts about Africa and the wonderful people that originate from there.

Oooo you jammy tart!
This week we rolled back the years in our Baking Club by making some traditional jam flavoured tarts. It took us back to school days and the summer picnics and with the weather warming up this week was the perfect treat for us all!
