Activities at The Spires Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Angie Smith
Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Life at The Spires Care Home
Mayor Visit
Fran, our General Manager, was pleased to welcome Mayor David Leytham and Mayoress Jan Leytham-Gain, who came along to support our open day. They chatted to residents, families and visitors. They seemed genuinely warm and compassionate and are always welcome at our home.
The Lichfield Bower Queen
Charlotte, our Lichfield Bower Queen, and her daughter, Lucy, visited The Spires and spent time with residents. The weather was dreary and raining, but their visit bought sunshine and laughter Lucy played Kerplunk and entertained us all for the whole time they were here.
Charlotte is planning to come again she will bring Lucy to visit the friends she has made, and will also come on her own to chat to residents and get to know them more and hear their stories.
Dementia Friends
We were joined by volunteers from the National Citizen Service, who did some work in our garden. Members of the local community, including a Lichfield police officer, joined us recently to see the results. General Manager, Fran Sharp, was delighted to receive a lovely bouquet of flowers from the young volunteers, as a way of saying thank you for inviting them into the home.
NCS Students' Garden Project
We were recently visited by a group of young people, who spent their summer in the grounds our home planting a community garden. The event, which took place throughout August, was part of NCS’ charity work, where a group of 15-17 year olds donated their time to create 3 floral beds in the home’s gardens as a gift for the residents at the home.
The group, paired off with green thumbed residents, chose the colours and plants together, helping to lay them all out before planting them in the private grounds of the home. The catering team at the home also provided a selection of healthy snacks for all during the project, including hand cut fruits and vegetables, as well as a spread of cakes and sweet treats for all to enjoy.
Our First Resident
The Spires welcomed its first resident, Joyce, aged 95, who, until recently, was living in France.
Fran Sharp, General Manager, welcomed Joyce and her family to the new home. Joyce and several family members attended our official opening on the 11th July and toasted the event with Prosecco and canapés. Joyce then officially moved into the superbly finished Barchester home on 17th July.
Joyce, who was one of the first people to work in the newly-founded NHS back in July 1948, said: “I am really happy here. Everyone is lovely and the staff are very kind. I have my computer and enjoy Skyping with my family, some of who are faraway – both in England and abroad."
Cricket Sponsorship
We sponsored the T20 Chauntry Cup final on Sunday 22nd July. Lichfield won the final, which is great news, and The Spires' Home Services Advisor, Carrie Jahn, attended the day and presented the wining team with their cup.
Some residents went along to watch some of the cricket in the morning before heading back to The Spires for lunch.
