Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

Residents have taken part in January's Big Garden Birdwatch in collaboration with the RSPB.  It was clipboards and pens at the ready as we poised ourselves for an hour of bird watching in our glorious garden.

We enjoyed the chilly winter sunshine by taking a ramble around our lovely gardens. We watched our resident robin feed off the new bird feeder and chatted about the new shoots which are coming up already.

We have the most beautiful garden here at The Spires and we never miss an opportunity to get outside and make the most of it!

Keep Calm & Arrange Flowers

A group of ladies have enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of flower arranging.

January has been a long wet month so we thought it was a good time to bring some colour into the home and it just so happened to be International Flower Day.

We have some creative talent amongst us and the beautiful flower arrangements are now proudly on display in Residents rooms and communal areas for all to enjoy.

Gentlemen's Trip to the Pub

A group of our Gentlemen gathered together for an afternoon visit to our local pub.

It was all aboard the homes minibus as we headed to the Bowling Green, where we received a warm welcome.

We enjoy getting out and about into the community and the afternoon was spent chatting and reminiscing about the history of Lichfield with our favourite tipple.

We are already looking forward to planning our next visit!

100th Birthday Celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at the home as our wonderful Resident, Winnie reaches her centenary in style.

Winnie was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other Residents as she received a telegram from the King in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef.

Happy 100th Birthday Winnie!

Christmas Photo Shoot

Our Activities Team wanted to do something special for Residents and their families, so they came up with the idea of personalised Christmas cards.  Everyone agreed it was a heart warming idea and so set to work making it happen.

We set up a lovely festive backdrop and ran a photo shoot session to snap Residents photos and then added them to Christmas cards.

Residents will each have a personalised Christmas Card that they can give to their loved ones for Christmas.

Residents Trip to Lichfield Cathedral

Residents have spent a festive afternoon visiting Lichfield Cathedral.  The beautiful stained glass windows and peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect place to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

It was a treat to take a stroll around the community Christmas trees and we even spotted the tree we helped to create decorations for.

Our timing was perfect, as before we left we watched the children's choir sing, which was very moving.

To round off a Christmassy afternoon, we then headed to a nearby cafe for tea and cake.
