Activities at The Spires Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Angie Smith
Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at The Spires Care Home
Dogs Trust
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.
Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
Games afternoon
Another glorious Monday here at The Spires today, we have been watering our newly planted herbs and bedding plants on our lovely terrace.
We got competitive playing matching games on our tiny tablet then enjoyed reading to one another in the dementia book club after which we had a group discussion about the contents which
reminisced mainly about old fashioned slogans for TV adverts like; “A Mars a day helps you work rest and play” “For mash get smash” and not forgetting The milky bar kid and the goodness within.
Birthday celebrations
Today was all about our lovely Irene’s 92nd Birthday celebration, she received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her family had a fantastic cake made by our wonderful Chef Polly. We spent time singing and dancing together which we all know Irene loves.
To make the day extra special we took Irene out on a trip in our mini bus to the Heart of the Country Village with her friends. Time was spent making wishes under the wishing tree which was magical.
Cars in the Park
We have had a brilliant day out today to the cars in the park event at Beacon Park in Lichfield. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the different types of cars including the classic and vintage ones that were on display.
One of our residents faces lit up when he saw the Lambretta Scooter, which he told us was very similar to the one he used to have back in the day, this generated lots of conversation and wonderful memories.
A trip to the local pub
Residents at The Spires Care Home have enjoyed a trip to their local pub to celebrate the arrival of the warmer weather! Residents and the activities team at The Spires Care Home had a lovely afternoon sat in the beautiful beer garden of their local, The Hedgehog Pub enjoying a drink together. All our residents enjoy getting out and about as part of our regular trips out and we particularly enjoy spending time in our local area.
RAF Hendon
Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.
Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.
The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
