Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Residents Trip to Lichfield Cathedral

Residents have spent a festive afternoon visiting Lichfield Cathedral.  The beautiful stained glass windows and peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect place to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

It was a treat to take a stroll around the community Christmas trees and we even spotted the tree we helped to create decorations for.

Our timing was perfect, as before we left we watched the children's choir sing, which was very moving.

To round off a Christmassy afternoon, we then headed to a nearby cafe for tea and cake.

Best Dressed Christmas Tree Competition

We a pleased to announce the winners of our Best Dressed Christmas Tree Competition.

Congratulations to Frankie and Freddie!

We launched the competition at the beginning of December, and Residents have been busy sifting through all the wonderful entries.  After some careful deliberation, Residents choose the adorable duo's tree, which was bright and fun - to match their cheeky smiles.

Thank you to everyone who participated and bringing festive joy to our home.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Community spirit shines through

Staff and Residents at The Spires Care Home, in Lichfield ushered in the festive season and created some Christmas spirit by inviting the local community, friends and family to join them in a magical Christmas light switch on celebration.

The Christmas tree and all the lights looked amazing when Mayor of Lichfield, Counsellor Ann Hughes, flicked the switch for the big reveal and the home was illuminated to a huge cheer.

To keep everyone warm, the homes culinary team supplied the obligatory mulled wine and mince pies, which went down a real treat.

Childhood and School memories.

Today at The Spires we have enjoyed another reminiscence session all about Childhood and School memories.

We enjoyed talking about our favourite memories including caravan holidays to the beach, our favourite childhood dinners and playing with conkers on the playground.

We also enjoyed playing with a few old toys including the wooden ball and cup which brought back lots of memories.

We have also enjoyed a seated exercise DVD this morning in our cinema room and some ladies enjoyed having their nails done.

National Memorial Arboretum

We have had a fantastic trip out today to The National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.

We enjoyed a walk around the Arboretum before enjoying some cake and a hot drink in the cafe. We visited the chapel and then finished off with having a look around the Arboretum shop.

Festive decorations

Today at The Spires we have started to get into the Christmas Spirit!

We enjoyed making some Christmas Decorations ready to decorate our Christmas Tree’s next week whilst listening to our favourite Christmas songs!

We also enjoyed a visit from our lovely Pet Therapy dog Parker and owner Annie, Parker enjoyed lots of fuss from the residents!
