Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Lest We Forget

We were full of pride to join our local community Remembrance service in, Ashington. Listening to the brass band along the street and coming together in the towns memorial garden. Fusilier, David attended in his full uniform making our full home proud of him.

In house we remembered and reflected on remembrance coming together to fall silent, reciting poetry and reminiscing with war memorabilia from Northumberland library. We sang along and danced the afternoon away to wartime classics performed live by musical memories and remembered the fallen together.

‘’At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’’

Remember, remember the 5th of November

We had an explosive day at Station Court celebrating bonfire night this month.

We had fun creating our very own penny for the guy and parading him around our home reminiscing of younger years and fun times as children.

When night time came we had a sparkling evening and headed to the garden to watch fireworks light up the sky with sparklers before warming up around the fire, testing our knowledge with a Guy Fawkes themed quiz, hot chocolates and sweet treats.

Home celebrates Long Service Award

An Administrator at Station Court Care Home in Ashington has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.  Tracey Tait, home administrator started at Barchester in November 2013 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years. Tracey Tait said ‘’ I am over the moon to receive gifts and recognition from the home resident ambassador, from Barchester for my loyalty, it’s great to feel appreciated in your role. I am looking forward to many more years making a difference to the residents lives I care for and supporting the staff I work alongside.’’

Pumpkin Painting Party

We had a terror-ific day at Station Court, getting messy and creative with local children and families joining us from the community for our pumpkin painting party. We designed and painted pumpkins, holding a competition for the most creative and the spookiest, we took part in a Halloween quiz together and everyone received eeriestible treats (no tricks)

We love hosting events for our local community and bringing people together. Intergenerational sessions are not only fun for everyone they have many mental and physical benefits for all ages involved.

Harvest Service

Lay Minister Paulette, Rev Lorna and Anna Chaplain Julie joined us from the Holy Sepulchre Church to hold a special Harvest Service in our lounge to give thanks with prayers, hymns and offering communion to residents who wish.

The lovely ladies visit every Monday and hold holy communion once a month to enable our Christian residents to remain faith, feel connected, supported and uplifted.

After the service we held a mindful session on giving thanks and to what we are grateful for and collected items for our harvest collection to donate to our local food bank – Wansbeck Food Valley.

Fun at the Farm

Our animal loving residents popped on their woollies for an autumn adventure to humbles wood community farm for an exclusive tour and animal experience with owner, Clare.

Our ladies pampered therapy ponies, Milo and Bounty. They walked twin goats Harry and Dolly and loved feeding baby goat Johnny. They cuddled chickens Daisy and Minnie, fed Ant and Dec the donkeys and met and fed Monty Bruno and Zeus the alpacas before warming up with tea and cake in the barn with salt and pepper the cats. A truly brilliant wholesome day was had by us all and we can’t wait to return!
