Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Pancake Party

Residents had a delicious day celebrating Shrove Tuesday at Station Court Care home.

Ladies and gentlemen took part in flipping and tossing pancake challenges creating a barrel of laughter amongst everyone.

Everyone choose their favourite toppings, or tried something new from an array of tasty options from the classic lemon and sugar to the sweet caramel drizzle and ice-cream to mozzarella and ham for the savoury lovers before the best part - eating them!

Giving a little love this February

Some of our staff have been volunteering alongside Station Court’s charity of the month – Streetworx throughout February to see first-hand the wonderful work the community led organisation do for those living on the streets of Newcastle handing out food, clothing and much needed items.

Our residents have put blessing bags together filled with treats to donate along with our collection of warm clothing, hot pot foods and necessities from our staff and visitors. Every little helps for those facing the cold winter on the streets.

Master Florist tutorial

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Beers and Banter

Our gentlemen at Station Court Care Home decided not to take part in dry January this year and as snow fell that did not stop us heading to our local pub for our fortnightly gents club.

Spending the afternoon out in the community, reminiscing of pit days and past days down the pub, bonding over hobbies and meeting new friends and 4 legged ones over their favourite alcoholic drinks and bar snacks in our local towns pub - The Miners, decorated in mining heritage and local history in a cosy atmosphere  ... CHEERS!

Fabulous 50s!

Wow what a day we had turning back the clock and reliving the fabulous 50s on memory lane with the amazing live performer, Michaela from Musical Memories joining us performing our favourite 50s rock n roll hits such as Elvis, Chuck Berry and Bill Haley to twist and shout to at our fabulous 50s party before reminiscing the golden years and taking part in picture and music quizzes.
