Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Bluebell Barn Nursery visits to see our home

We had Bluebell Barn visit for their intergenerational playtime, we made some poppies for Remembrance Sunday and had a great time!

We even had one of the little ones not forget that it was our very own Barbara's Birthday, it was really lovely because they even brought her flowers for her special day!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..

We've been busy prepping the start of Christmas at Sycamore grove and these ladies have been busy making the bistro tree ready for the Christmas Fayre on Saturday.

I'm sure you will agree they've done a fantastic job and we are so happy the festivities are beginning.

Happy Birthday Barbara

Yesterday was a very special day, for a much loved member of our community Barbara. We all wanted her to have a wonderful birthday and the home wanted to do something special!

We had a go at baking Barbara a cake! We felt it went pretty well, it was great to wish this wonderful woman a very Happy Birthday.

Scouting and Girl Guiding experience Speaker Khandi visits Sycamore Grove

We had a talk from an incredible young lady called Khandi. She visited the home to talk about her Girl Guiding experience. She came and spoke about the copious badges she has earned in her time with the Girl Guides and the Brownies.

Her talk was listened to by the home with great intent and we really we thrilled with her visit.

Thank you for coming in and keep up the awesome work. Please pop by again we loved you coming in.

Card making for fundraising with the WI

We had a visit from the local WI who had a little assistance from our home making handmade cards for the WI to help raise funds for the WI and St Wilfreds Hospice.

We have enjoyed learning the principles of how to make a card and enjoyed putting these learnings into practice.

Thank you ladies and we look forward to having you back soon and we hope you raise lots of funds for this great cause.
