Activities at Tewkesbury Fields Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Paula Lourenco

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Paula and I’m the Activities coordinator at Tewkesbury Fields care home. I’ve joined Barchester healthcare in 2020.

As part of the lifestyle enrichment team, I will be organising daily activities, ensuring that residents have varied activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives, creating memories and be able to provide meaningful activities to each one of the residents living at Tewkesbury fields.

Those were the days

We’ve travelled all the way back to the 50s!

Speakers Virginia and David from Gloucestershire Local History Association, visited Tewkesbury Fields and presented the talk and demonstration called "Those were the days". They've got such a fabulous collection of reminisce items that it got every resident talking about stories and memories from their past.

Everyone reminisced about the Queen's coronation, baby's clothes, toys, teenagers clothing, school items, fashion, smoking, simple things such as a collar box, and so much more!

It was a very knowledgeable talk and a fantastic afternoon.

Birds of prey

We've welcomed Jenny from Wren’s Birds of Prey who brought three beautiful owls.

Residents greatly enjoyed learning about the owls and how important conservation is for the UK to continue to have such incredible birds living in the wild.

It was such an incredible experience to be up so close, to touch, hold each of them, and to include bedroom visits.

Thank you Jenny for a great afternoon, it was a fantastic experience.

Gaia Exhibition

Some of the team members and residents got to see this marvellous exhibition by Luke Jerram!

"Internally lit, Gaia comes into its own during the evening when the light is low and there is a more profound sense of what it might be like to see Earth from space. A specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award winning Composer Dan Jones is played alongside the sculpture. In Greek Mythology Gaia is the personification of the Earth".

A fabulous experience that our lovely residents got to enjoy.

A surprise visit from Santa and Elf

On Boxing day, residents received a morning surprise from Santa and the Elf delivering presents to everyone.

Each resident received a meaningful gift which they’ve enjoyed opening.

In the afternoon, there were a choice of mince pies, Christmas cake and shortbread biscuits, accompanied with tea, coffee and mulled wine, that was enjoyed by all.

The home was filled with the spirit of the Christmas season, and the joy and smiles on the residents’ faces were truly heart-warming.

It's Panto time!

Oh, no it isn't! Oh, yes it is!

Residents, families and staff have had a wonderful afternoon out watching "Beauty and the Beast", at the Roses Theatre, Tewkesbury.

One Resident, said: “It was lovely to see the different generations on stage and the interaction with the audience was wonderful to be part of. Having moved to the area to be near my family the sense of community spirit is evident to see in Tewkesbury and the trip to the theatre is one of many I have enjoyed living in the area." What a fabulous performance!
