Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

Festive arts and card making

It is never too early to prepare for the festive period.  At Threshfield Court, we are busy making Christmas Decorations and making our plans for December 2020.  It is amazing how much fun you can have with a glue stick and glitter and also how we accommodate all abilities and interests.

A simple activity colouring a bauble enables us to have meaningful discussions about how we celebrate Christmas and what we enjoyed doing.

We are preparing our wish list for our Christmas Eve Treat Box  which has become a lovely tradition at Threshfield Court.  The items are chosen by the residents and are handed out on Christmas Eve and a beautifully decorated box.

Residents enjoy music and movement

Once a week at Threshfield Court we have a Movement to Music session.  We do tend to like the Abba songs which just seems to give everyone a little bit of extra energy.  We start our workout with a gentle arm chair warm up, working from the head down to our toes.  We steadily increase the intensity as our bodies warm up and we become more relaxed.  One of our favourite cool down activities is to throw different size balls around and have mini competitions.  As always, we end our session with a sit down and a chat with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit”.

Threshfield keeping Residents connected

Residents are overjoyed at Threshfield Court care home in Threshfield, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

Pumpkin creativity

At Threshfield Court when it is damp and dark outside we fill our home with colour and brightness with the aroma of sweet smelling flowers.   Ten pumpkins were delivered  to our ladies who thoroughly enjoyed  the flower arranging in very alternative vessels.  We had a really super afternoon and re-discovered our creative talents.   We were amazed at the talent that we have in our home as it appears that there is a real art to flower arranging.

Resident enjoys birthday celebrations

What a wonderful morning we have had at Threshfield Court.  It is not every day that we have the opportunity to celebrate an 80th Birthday.  Derrick had the most amazing golfing cake which was shared between residents and staff, the Jolly Trolley sang Happy Birthday, we blew candles out on the cake and sang another Happy Birthday song. We then spent time with Derrick opening all his gifts and cards.

We were fortunate to arrange a double time slot using our Ipad so that Derrick's family were involved with the celebration which is so important

Residents attend virtual service

Every week at Threshfield Court we encourage an hour of mindfulness and spiritual  relaxation.  Previously, we had a weekly visit from our local Vicar or Priest, but now we use our Jolly Trolley and modern technology.  This week we used a combination of our own readings and prayers with watching Songs of Prayers which was set at Burghley House.  We enjoyed the historical side of the program as well as listening to the hymns, prayers and sermons.  We always have a cup of tea and enjoy the variety of the hour
