Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 14th November marked a very special day for us all: Remembrance Sunday 2021. In order to celebrate we had some very special visitors here at West Oak, three Rifleman from the Seventh Battalion centre in Reading come in to see our residents.

As you can imagine the residents were over the moon to have such special visitors and it brought back a lot of memories for some who had served in the Army or who have family serving in the army now.

As a home we would like to thank all of the Soldiers who have served or who are serving in the army and keeping us safe.

Halloween Spirit

Residents and staff have had a brilliant day getting into the Halloween spirit. We started off by decorating the home with all things spooky. We then created some amazing designs on our pumpkins and apple candles. We then finished off the spooky celebrations with an all-time classic Halloween film, The Addams Family.

Community Champion

West Oak would like to thank Louise, Tesco’s Community Champion, for organising this generous donation for our Halloween celebrations. The flowers that were also donated have brought colour and fragrance to the home in the beautiful arrangements our residents created.

National Poetry Day

Residents enjoyed an autumnal poetry journey for National Poetry Day, with each poet's different take on this beautiful season. Residents relaxed with a (non-alcoholic) gin and flavoured tonic and nibbles during our themed poetry club afternoon.

Harvest Festival

West Oak and St Paul's Church would like to say a big thank you to all who donated items for this year’s Harvest Festival. Mary from St Pauls Church was really pleased with the variety of food items and is looking forward to distributing them to the wider community.

Costa Coffee

Brian enjoyed his afternoon trip out to Costa coffee, Winnersh. We started the trip by taking a small drive around the local area and discussing all of the local attractions. Brian was very taken back by how large Show Case Cinema was.

We then stopped off for coffee & cake. Brian enjoyed a latte with a delicious iced cinnamon bun. It was a lovely afternoon trip and we were extremely lucky to enjoy some glorious sunshine.
