Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

VE Day

West Oak marked the anniversary of VE Day with a relaxed afternoon of reminiscence.

Residents swapped stories of their experiences during this time over a brew and homemade cakes.

Our residents explained to staff how the ration books, identity cards and clothing books worked, with stories about how different things were then compared to how they are now.

As soon as Vera Lynn’s iconic music started to play, our residents couldn’t help but sing along.

Doughnut Run

West Oak were delighted to go out in the community to do a doughnut run to our local fire station & police station. Loddon Valley Police Station were kind enough to send in lots of donations for our residents & staff at Christmas 2020, which was greatly appreciated. Wokingham Fire Station have been to the home on a number of occasions in the past and always a great help.

Engaging with our local community is something we pride ourselves on here at West Oak, and to be able to give something back meant a lot, even if just a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Loddon Valley Police Station and Wokingham Fire Station for all of their dedication and hard work through such a difficult time, and we look forward to welcoming you back for a bacon roll and warm cup of tea when we can.

Blanket Donation

Earlier in the week, we received a very generous donation of knitted blankets from local charity, Wokingham In Need. This huge selection is greatly appreciated by all the staff and our residents.

Residents have enjoyed looking through the blankets and we spoke about the different colours and patterns. They have all now selected which blanket they would like for their rooms.

Easter Donation

Easter has arrived at West Oak. We have received a generous donation from Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s & Waitrose with a selection of Easter eggs & sweets. The staff and residents are grateful for this kind gesture and have enjoyed choosing which Easter egg they would like.

Thank you to these supermarkets for the donation—we have a lot of happy bunnies!

The Magic Table

West Oak is thrilled to be able to add a bit of magic to our Home with our new Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme as a way to improve our residents' quality of life.

The table has many different choices of games and interactive stimulation exercises for every resident to enjoy.

This is a great way for our residents to interact with members of staff and each other. The portable projector means we can use it within big groups or on a one-to-one basis. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail and allow all of our residents to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

Mother's Day

West Oak celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon tea, with a section of nicely prepared sandwiches, cakes and sherry. It was a lovely afternoon and we all enjoyed celebrating the special day together with many cards, flowers and gifts. The staff and the residents were delighted to read through their Mother’s Day cards and reminisce.
