Activities at West Oak Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at West Oak Care Home

Welcoming Visitors

The online booking system is enabling relatives and friends to book visits at their own convenience, by choosing a time and day to suit them. Its proving to be a great success with those who have internet access, with so many families using the system. There are procedures in place for those who do not have internet access, so they don’t miss out on seeing their loved ones. The pod has been set up with an intercom system, which works well to keep conversation flowing, even for those whose hearing isn’t the best.

It’s been an emotional reunion for our residents and their families to finally be able to see each other, with smiles and tears of happiness all around, even with the staff.

The sisters are thrilled to be able to be back together after such a long time apart, but it only felt like yesterday since they’d seen each other.

International Chocolate Day

International Chocolate Cake Day was a huge success at West Oak. Not only was there lots of delicious homemade chocolate cake to eat, but also a 'guess the eight of the cake' competition. We have a lot of bakers here at West Oak with lots of residents guessing the right weight of the cake and stand. To celebrate, we all had a nice slice of the 2lb cake and an afternoon cuppa.

Burns Night

Burns at West Oak this year was celebrated in style, just on a smaller scale than normal. We all enjoyed the traditional haggis, tatties and neeps, with a wee dram, while listening to traditional bagpipes in the background.

Thank You From Our RD

Our home's Regional Director gave a surprise visit to give his thanks and appreciation personally for all the staff’s hard work and dedication.

Elvis' Birthday

Here at West Oak, we celebrated the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley’s, 86th birthday a little differently this year.

With the help of the residents choosing photos of his suits, his albums, his movies, his home and his family, we made our very own special booklet. Enough were printed for those who were not able to come into the lounge.

Residents had fun looking through their booklets and remembering the king, whilst his music was playing in the background.

Residents also took to the TV screen to watch a selection of his most famous movies, enjoying some afternoon treats.

Staff Receive Vaccination

We at West Oak are very proud to be having our first COVID-19 vaccination. We are pleased to be given the vaccine to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal. We are looking forward to having visitors back in the home again.
