Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

September Flower

Residents had a creative and inspiring time during an arts and crafts session, drawing inspiration from the vibrant September flower, the Aster. They learned new artistic techniques, which they used to craft beautiful pieces of abstract art. The session not only allowed them to explore their creativity but also helped them develop new skills, resulting in a collection of unique and colourful artwork that everyone was proud of.

Taking a stroll into Bourne

Residents had a delightful outing to Bourne High Street, where they enjoyed browsing through the local shops and exploring the historic market town. After a leisurely stroll, they headed to a cosy local pub for a relaxing lunch, savouring the food and the friendly atmosphere. The trip provided a perfect mix of shopping, socialising, and good food, leaving everyone with smiles and happy memories.

Residents joining in with the Tuneless Choir

Residents had a wonderful time during a visit from the Tuneless Choir, a group known for their joyful and relaxed approach to singing. The residents eagerly sang along to familiar songs, joined in with percussion instruments, and even took to the floor for a fun-filled dance session. The lively atmosphere brought smiles to everyone's faces, making it a memorable and uplifting experience for all.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!

Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.

Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Meeting Pocky

Residents recently enjoyed a delightful morning out at nearby Spa Stud farm, where they had the opportunity to meet Pocky, a beautiful and friendly horse. The outing provided the residents with a refreshing change of scenery and a chance to reconnect with nature in a peaceful and picturesque setting.

The visit was filled with joy and excitement as the residents spent time with Pocky, who charmed everyone with his gentle nature. The interaction between the residents and the horse was heart-warming, with many expressing how much they appreciated the opportunity to meet such a magnificent animal up close. The calming presence of Pocky brought smiles to the faces of all who attended, making it a truly memorable experience.

Barry’s New Skill: Capturing Memories of Vera Lynn with a Photocopier

At our care home, we always encourage residents to pursue their interests and learn new skills. Recently, Barry, one of our cherished residents, decided to learn how to use the photocopier. With a bit of guidance, he successfully copied pages from a book about his idol, Vera Lynn. The joy on his face was priceless as he held the pages of his favourite singer’s story in hand. Barry’s enthusiasm reminds us that it’s never too late to learn something new, especially when it connects us with the things we love.
