Activities at Woodside House
Our activities team deliver a wide variety of mentally and physically stimulating activities and events for those we support, including coffee afternoons, which we hold every month for the local community, regular outings in our minibus, and visits from entertainers and musicians. Monthly resident meetings help us to ensure that those living here are getting the most out of our activities programme, and that our social events reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible. From growing our own vegetables to making giant paper-mâché animals, there is always something fun going on at Woodside House.
Sam Lake
My name is Sam and I lead our Activities Team at Woodside House.
I have been at Woodside House since 2004 and I love it here. I am responsible for ensuring that the residents are able to participate in sociable, fun and rewarding activities. My team and I are very passionate about our work and love putting smiles on the residents' faces.
We involve the residents in the planning of our activity calendars and encourage residents to continue with the hobbies that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. We will support every resident to try new things and we love learning from our residents every day.

Fun In The Snow
Do you want to build a snowman?
It turns out the residents at Woodside House did want to build a snowman and so enlisted the help of our activities to make the most of the winter weather. A carrot donated from the kitchen and a scarf donated by a member of staff and we have our own little snowman making everyone smile.
He may not be the best snowman in the world, but he is ours and we love him.
Catching Up With Our Volunteers
At Woodside House we are fortunate to have a wonderful set of volunteers. Under normal circumstances these volunteers visit the home and spend time with the residents chatting, playing games, teaching music, learning new skills and becoming great friends.
We miss our volunteers very much and cannot wait to be able to invite them into the home again. Teresa has been missing our volunteer Heather and her amazing piano playing, so we arranged a catch up for them via Zoom in one of the quieter lounges. Heather is now going to be playing piano for Teresa and the other residents twice per week via video link. This is a great way of keeping everyone in touch until we can have the volunteers back to Woodside House.
Christmas Cake
Here at Woodside, we are very pleased to announce that our Christmas cake won first place in Barchester's central division. We are all very pleased!
Christmas Day
Here at Woodside House on Christmas day the staff dressed up as elves and brought Christmas cheer to all.
With festive fun throughout the day the elves were greeted with laughter wherever they went, delivering presents, playing games and encouraging all to have that extra Christmas tipple.
Elf Day
Here at Woodside, we celebrated Elf Day! We all dressed up in elf costumes and spread Christmas cheer around the home. Some of the naughty elves got up to mischief by encouraging residents to open presents early and to eat Santa's mince pies!
Our New Visiting Pod
We are pleased to announce that our new visiting suite is now open.
The designated visiting suite has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind, and has been recently adapted from a room which is accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors. The room is similar to a living room with comfortable furnishings and heated to create a welcoming and warm environment for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones in the upcoming months. The room has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
