Activities at Wykeham House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens
I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Residents enjoyed a fabulous day Arlington Bluebell Walk & Farm Trail. The wonderful woodland is wheelchair accessible and we took the blue route around the woodland before stopping for tea in the barn and visiting the lambs and goats!

Dementia Awareness Week
For Dementia Awareness week this week our memory lane residents went on a trip to Ivy Cottage Nursery School run by Cranbrook Independent Nursery and Preschool to visit the children they have been forming relationships with through our intergenerational project. We took some of our Barchester Healthcare books along and some forget me nots that we made! We had a fabulous afternoon with our friends in the nursery garden.

Ron Remembers the F1
This week we took Ron from Memory Lane to engage in one of his favourite past times. Ron used to attend Formula One in Monaco and loves his cars! Ron has transport magazines in his memory box and we spend time looking at all the old transportation. We decided to have a day out where Ron could indulge in everyone’s fantasy of having the fastest car! We visited Brooklands Museum and spent time in the F1 exhibition looked at both old and new sports cars that have been on the Brooklands track. Ron was fascinated not only with this but looking at the old buses in the Transport Museum and the aeroplanes on site! We had a fantastic day!

Community Garden Day
Residents, family and friends and volunteers from the community came together for our community gardening day. We set out to make our memory lane garden bright and colourful for our residents to enjoy. The group painted benches and 2 high rise planters made by a volunteer last year, they planted up small hanging pots, a grow wall and larger pots to add some beautiful flowers to the grounds.

Beauty and the Beast Pantomime Trip
Residents from Wykeham House enjoyed a trip to a local theatre for an evening of entertainment by the wonderful Beauty and The Beast Pantomime cast. We had some great laughs and danced along to the music. Scott was particularly taken by the dames interesting outfits and suggested it as the new uniform for the activities team!

Ivy Cottage Easter Visit
Staff and residents at Wykeham House celebrated Easter with a wonderful visit from the children and staff from Ivy Cottage nursery. They enjoyed a whole host of different activities together including an Easter Bonnet Parade, Easter Craft Making and an Easter Egg Hunt.
Residents at Wykeham House care home enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, but one of the highlights was a visit from the children from Ivy Cottage nursery.
