Activities at Wykeham House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

We set out to make our memory lane garden bright and colourful for our residents to enjoy. The group painted benches and 2 high rise planters made by a volunteer last year, they planted up small hanging pots, a grow wall and larger pots to add some beautiful flowers to the grounds.

Staff and residents at Wykeham House celebrated Easter with a wonderful visit from the children and staff from Ivy Cottage nursery. They enjoyed a whole host of different activities together including an Easter Bonnet Parade, Easter Craft Making and an Easter Egg Hunt.

Residents at Wykeham House care home enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, but one of the highlights was a visit from the children from Ivy Cottage nursery. The children gave a wonderful Easter Bonnet parade and made lovely handmade Easter cards with the residents to send to their loved ones. They then set off in pairs to look for the many Easter Eggs hidden around the home.

Armchair Travel - Canada

On the first Monday of each month residents residents join us for Armchair Travel. This month we went on a trip all the way to Canada. In the morning residents enjoyed watching some traditional Canadian grass dancing and throat singing, in the afternoon they took a quiz to test their knowledge on Canada, enjoyed some trivia and some pancakes with Canada's most popular sweet treat Maple Syrup! In the evening we set up our projector screen and residents took a tour round Canada.
