Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Norma's Wish

We made Norma’ s wish come true. When I was speaking to Norma asking her is she had a wish that we could make happen Norma came out with The Hollies where Norma used to volunteer there for 49 years she told us. So we made her wish come true we went off to the Hollies and had lunch.

The Hollies is a day Centre in Musselburgh High Street. Norma told us she used to get the bus to Dalkeith from Mayfield where she stayed then from Dalkeith to Musselburgh every day. Norma was so happy that we made her wish come true.

Sponsored Silence

Once again myself Diane has decided to help a local girl Sophie Walker that has been fighting cancer for many years. So I contacted her mum & aunty that was a member of staff here in the past. So I came up with an idea another sponsor silence so I asked our resident Jean & staff member Graham if they would like to join in. So on the 13th March it all happened. The 3 of us were quite for 1 hour.

It was very hard for us 3 as everyone knows how chatty we all are and lots of our collages were trying to get us to chat but we all stayed strong and done an excellent job. So all donations will be going towards her treatment.

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Volunteer

This afternoon in Archview we had the company of Cara, Rachel, Susie & Heidi. 4 primary 6 pupils from the local kings Park Primary School in Dalkeith. The 4 young girls wanted to spend their Sunday afternoon volunteering and they choose to do it in our home.

What an amazing afternoon our residents had. They helped the residents do word searches, joined in with dominoes and also  helped the residents at the scrabble. The 4 girls were so caring and very polite towards our residents. The 4 girls even gave out free cuddles to our residents when they were leaving can’t wait for you all to come back and join in.

Our residents said what really polite children they were and very helpful. Our residents said they can’t wait to see there little happy faces again.

Thanks again Cara, Rachel, Susie & Heidi from all residents & Staff here at Archview

Bingo Bonanza

Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as we teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.

Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.

Everyone who participate had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Valentine’s Day

Happy valentine’s Day

We brought  all our lovely couples together on such a romantic day to enjoy a romantic lunch with their loved ones. Everyone enjoyed the lunch big thank you to our Chef’s Scott & Ahmett.

Then in the afternoon  we listened to our valentine’s Feel Good Singing Group. Our valentine’s group got together every Monday for the past 5 weeks. So they could put on a show for everyone. So a big thank you to everyone that took part. Big shout to Sheila for showing the younger team how to dance.  All residents, staff & family members enjoyed there afternoon singing along.

We all would like to say a massive thank you to our activity coordinator Mary Macfarlane once again for putting on another great show this afternoon. You’re  on in a million your Archview’s Diamond.
