Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Halloween preparations in full swing

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor have been decorating the home ready for Halloween and we couldn't wait to show off these wreaths they have been making for the doors. They particularly liked making the spooky witches hat, ghost and bat!

Residents enjoy home baked sweet treats!

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor love making and decorating some sweet treats so at the weekend we decided to make some for our afternoon tea. Using icing, sprinkles, chocolate and colours the residents created bright and colourful biscuits!

It's safe to say they were thoroughly enjoyed alongside a cuppa!

Residents enjoy a virtual reading and writing event

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

Residents enjoy a Virtual Cruise Experience

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Musical Mayhem at Boroughbridge Manor

We don't need an excuse here at Boroughbridge Manor to enjoy an afternoon of good music, fun props and musical instruments!

There were smiles all round whilst we enjoyed a good old sing along accompanied by the residents on instruments, whilst some were having a boogie.

This activity is great for reminiscence sessions and keeping our residents moving and active.

Residents recognise Mental Health Day

As part of World Mental Health Day, residents at Boroughbridge Manor had an afternoon this weekend discussing their thoughts and feelings on things that made them happy. Whether it was people, family, words, expressions, feelings. They had some great advice on what they used to do (or still do) when feeling a little sad.

Using their fantastic creative skills with the activities team, they got to put those thoughts and feelings on paper, coloured to relax and spend time with others sharing stories and anecdotes.
