Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Shelbie Taylor
Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.
I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!
Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Residents celebrate the day of the dead
This week we marked Dia de los Muertos, also known as the Mexican Day of the Dead, and we decorated our home with beautiful colours, garlands and flags.
Our residents enjoyed making paper marigold flowers during an art class and our talented chef prepared a delicious Mexican feast with Chicken Tamales with Tomatillo-Cilantro Salsa, virgin margaritas and nachos.
We focused on prayers and remembrance of friends and families who are no longer with us.
It was a great day, enjoyed by all.
Flower Arranging Club
This week our residents at Boroughbridge Manor had a great time in our Flower Arranging Club.
We find our Flower Arranging Club great for all our residents, but especially those living with dementia. It's inclusive and can be done standing or sitting; it's a simple fun activity but provides sensory and cognitive stimulation and works on motor skills.
The residents experience ownership, independence and accomplishment in the finished piece.
"Enjoyment doesn’t require memory. A person living with a memory-loss condition may enjoy activities even if they do not remember them. What is important is that the moment is enjoyed, even though the experience may be soon forgotten."
Halloween is creeping in at Boroughbridge Manor
It's full steam ahead for Halloween here at Boroughbridge Manor. The activities team spent the day with residents to finish preparing decorations for our Halloween party this week. From pumpkin carving to making hanging spiders, it was an fun filled afternoon
Residents enjoy a Halloween virtual cooking demo
Residents had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
Making memories with the local school children
Activity Coordinators Shelbie and Jess recently visited Roecliffe CE Primary School to attend their awards ceremony where they announced the winner of our drawing competition for the Harvest Festival.
The competition theme was Farmers around Harvest and what they do. Once all the drawings had been done the teachers brought them to Boroughbridge Manor where the residents picked the best drawing.
We had a great afternoon visiting the School and we look forward to making more fun memories with the children.
Magical moments at Boroughbridge Manor
Residents had a fun filled morning using our Magic Table.
The magic table has such a wide range of activities to do that it has something to suit everyone - from painting to puzzles. Its a fantastic addition to the home and stimulates engagement.
