Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

A whale of a time!

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.

Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!

It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.

Reminiscing and looking back at great memories

This afternoon our residents got out their creative side and started a 2021 scrapbook to capture all the great times and memories throughout the year. We have started right back from January and will be working our way through the months capturing all the great times we have had so far.

We look forward to adding more memories as the months go on, so that come December we can reflect back on the year we've had!

Boroughbridge Manor celebrates National Allotment Week!

This week we have been celebrating National Allotment Week!

We had a visit to our local allotments and spent some time on one of our teams plot. We reminisced about allotments they remembered having, their parents had and grandparents had! We picked and tried some peas and berries, dug up some potatoes, looked for frogs in the pond, picked some sweet peas, had some sandwiches.

It was lovely to be out and about, enjoying the fresh air, good weather and seeing the sights.

English National Ballet dance workshop

We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.

We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.

They took part and we didn’t realise Ballet was so meaningful, with all the different movements, and afterwards spoke of this and created their own movements and what it had meant to them.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Residents celebrate International Beer Day

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor had a fun-filled day as we raised a glass and tasted top ales in recognition of International Beer Day.

Our residents enjoyed a mini beer festival in the lounge and got involved in a variety of interesting activities.

Some of our residents spent time learning about craft brewing and the history of beer, others preferred to join the beer tasting session in the lounge and to try beers from all around the world.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Residents get down with club culture!

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.
