Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Community Engagement

We had a stall at the local market in Market Deeping, where we engaged with the local community. We met with a PCSO, who will be visiting Braeburn regularly to meet and talk with residents and staff.

Loose Women

Loose Women

The ladies of Braeburn Lodge enjoy our 'Loose Women' session, where they debate hot topics and headlines. All residents are invited—so the gentlemen sometimes make an appearance too—and we even extend the invitation to the wider community.

What have we been up to?

We've been keeping ourselves really busy recently here at Braeburn Lodge.

On 7th November, residents went out for a meal at the local fish & chip shop, 'The Boundary'. We booked this trip because it is very popular with residents, and serve generous portions for seniors.

On 9th November, residents were invited to a tea party at Linchfield Community Primary School in Deeping St James to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The children offered the residents cakes and cups of tea. We enjoyed a singalong to classics such as ‘We’ll Meet Again’, and were even donated the top raffle prize: a poppy cake that was shared between the residents.

On 11th November, for Remembrance Sunday, our local Reverend, Linda, came to Braeburn to lead a service for the residents and staff. We were also joined by loved ones, who shared some stories about Britain during wartime.

On 15th November, Zoolab visited the home and brought with them spiders, insects and other creatures for residents to look at and hold – if they were brave enough, that is.

On 19th November, residents went Christmas shopping with the activities team at the Van Hague Garden Centre. They enjoyed seeing all the Christmas displays on show and a nice, warming hot chocolate topped with cream – delicious!

On 26th November, The Banjo Man (Sean) came in to entertain residents with his banjo playing. Sean often comes to Braeburn Lodge and is a firm favourite. Residents and staff all joined in with the singing and dancing – a fun time was had by all.

On 29th November, residents decorated the Christmas trees with the activities team. Everyone enjoyed adding their own touches, and we can't wait until Christmas.

Over the course of November and December, staff and residents walked a mile a day for the home. We enjoyed walking around the local area, earning sponsorships for the Barchester Foundation.

On 7th December, children from the local Deeping St James Primary School came to sing carols for the residents, who really enjoyed singing along to the classic festive tunes with them.

On 8th December, we celebrated Hanukkah with some of our Jewish residents. They enjoyed receiving presents and a large plate of doughnuts.

On 10th December, Ray came in for another tai chi session with the residents. Tai chi is a simple but effective exercise for residents to join in with to get their blood flowing. It helps with their digestion and provides many other benefits. We also went to lunch at a new local restaurant, The Tulip Queen. Residents wore their Christmas hats and some enjoyed a tipple or two. Everyone loved their food, and we surprised the other diners with a Christmas singalong.

On 12th December, The Glebe Singers came in to sing Christmas carols for the residents. The residents joined in with the singing and we enjoyed some Christmas cheer with a glass of wine and a mince pie.

Summer Fete

Summer Fete

We had a lovely afternoon at Braeburn Lodge with family and friends at our Summer Fete. It was a scorching day and the World Cup final didn't deter anyone from coming. We had live music, stalls, lots of refreshments and food which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
