Activities at Cheverton Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians, as well as art therapy, flower arranging, Exercise to music and quizzes. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as they can, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.
Cara Nutt
I joined Cheverton Lodge in 2024 as an Activity Coordinator. I completed a Health and social care level 2 and performing arts at college. I have worked as an activity coordinator in a care home setting for over 5 years. I love my role, the passion and drive it gives me to ensure everyone receives a fun and fulfilled lifestyle, which is person centred to them.
I love being creative, I sing in my spare time alongside playing the electric guitar, piano and also writing my own music. I look forward to my journey here at Cheverton lodge, and bringing lots of fun!

Life at Cheverton Lodge Care Home
VE Day memories
Residents at Cheverton Lodge in Islington marked the anniversary of VE Day, also known as Victory in Europe Day, by organizing a variety of special activities. The home was specially decorated for the occasion and residents gathered together for a tea party. Residents got involved in a sing-along, themed talks and reminiscence of previous VE day celebrations.
Time for tea
At Barchester Cheverton Lodge any time is a good time for tea but there is no better time to celebrate than National Tea Day. National Tea Day is the time Britain takes to celebrate its longstanding relationship with the steeped drink. Their love for tea is so deep that collectively they consume more than 60 billion cups a year. That’s upwards of 165 million cups a day.
Sea Life London Aquarium virtual experience
Residents and team members were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful underwater world of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, hosted by Senior Curator, James Wright and his expert team. SEA LIFE London Aquarium is home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures, including Gentoo Penguins, Sea Turtles and Seahorses, which are cared for by its dedicated team of 15 Aquarists. The shark tank alone is one million litres in volume and six metres deep and is home to five species of sharks – Sand Tigers called Bungle and Zippy, a Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Sharks, Tawny Nurse Shark and a shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks as well as a Bowmouth Guitarfish called Betty.
James’ presentation featured getting up close and personal with SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s colony of Gentoo Penguins, residents were able to watch feeding time for Green Sea turtles and numerous sharks!
Bringing in the spring
At Cheverton Lodge one of our favourite places to be is in the garden. Gardening club is a great opportunity for us to get outside and work on our gardening skills. We are very lucky to have a gardening specialist in Doreen, she give us great advice and guidance in the garden. Today we have been repotting out hanging baskets.
Festive Creativity
To make our Christmas Day even more special, we wanted to create beautiful table centrepieces. Luckily, our residents were keen to get involved, so it was all hands on deck during our floral arrangement activity.
Not only did our residents thoroughly enjoy themselves but they created beautiful arrangements which gave a special touch to our dining rooms.
Christmas Opera
Just like every year, Maria Arakie, Glen Wilson and pianist, Nicholas Bosworth from Connaught Opera, hosted one of our Christmas Concerts via Zoom, which was followed by a live chat.
Our residents really appreciated the audience participation, the great variety of songs and the fabulous sense of fun. One resident described their singing as “a burst of sunshine”.
After the call, we had a great discussion about the songs and the amazing expressions and emotions they had.
